3. I love Jesse Jackson - I really do! (potential spoiler...) |
|
But I had to laugh out loud when I heard the show earlier tonight. He referred to the baby Jesus as "an at-risk child" who was born into homelessness.
(just for the record, Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem because of the royal census, to register - presumably, for tax purposes. But when they got there, there were so many people, that there was no place for them to stay. Homeless? No. At risk? Perhaps - but that's another story...).
Sorry if I ruined it for anyone - added "spoiler" to subject line.

4. Well, Jesus did identify with the poor. |
|
I guess if Mel Gibson can portray Him as a European and deify His mother, Jesse is well within bounds. I think Jesse was merely making the point that if Jesus were born today, He would be facing some of the same difficult struggles that middle class and poor Americans are facing, with this administration and all its "morals" looking on and doing nothing. ("Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matt. 25:40) As President-Elect Kerry stated, "Faith without works is dead."

7. I don't disagree with the sentiments. |

I just thought it was funny - "Jesus: an At-Risk child."
Theologically, it'll preach!

5. I think he is great too, but I have to say I don't remember this one |
|
in the New Testament: Jesse said, "Jesus said you tell the tree by the fruit it bears not the bark it wears." I cracked up on that one.
