What to Make of AP Story: "Only 63 Challenges In Florida Nov. Election"
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 06:47 PM by EMunster
11:45 am EST December 24, 2004

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Miami-Dade and Broward counties had the most voter challenges in the November election, but the state saw only 63 challenges among about 7.6 million votes cast, according to elections supervisors' offices.

The low number of challenges came despite the waves of Republican and Democrat lawyers who descended on Florida in anticipation of a flood of them.

maybe the most interesting part is this...

Republican strategists said they had planned for challenges, but decided against it in the last 72 hours of the campaign.

"Elections are very fluid situations," GOP spokesman Joseph Agostini told the newspaper in a story published Friday.

"Because of our strong organization, we were able to change direction on many different levels as the situation warranted," he said.

Before the election, Republicans said they were worried about widespread voter fraud. But their concerns lessened as Nov. 3 approached.

"Things were retooled and redirected in the heat of battle," Agostini said.

...they can say that again.

2. The election situation of Florida was just as bad as the last time
But many individuals in that state have given up due to the previous election of 2000 and its many problems yet noone stepped up to help in Congress when so many representatives requested their backing. How many times do you get knocked down before you just simple give up.

They are giving up but Ohio's win will bring back the faith in a just system and it will revive Florida. I was a poll worker during the early days as well as on Nov 2rd. It was just another Ohio on the ground and AP does not know what it is speaking of, they suck basically in their reporting.

If AP really wanted the real story they would go out into the public and boy, oh boy, would they get a report worth giving to the rest of the country. But they will not do that, lazy reporting is just apart of who they are anymore, to bad really,

7. He was talking about 'challenges'
where someone challenges a voter regarding the legitimacy of their right to vote.

6. That is one screwed up comparison. How do you contest what you don't know?
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 09:09 PM by wiggle-room
How would any one of the 7.6 million voters know that his/her vote was switched or tossed? Why would any individual voter even conceive of challenging the vote?

This comparison is being used solely to try to minimize the anti-fraud movement. I can't think of any other reason. And that kind of makes it clear where the "media" is.

Which is why I think Kerry being "out of the mix" right now is probably a good thing.

9. People, challenges are not initiated BY the voter
but rather AGAINST them

10. Don't Take The Repubs' Word For It! You Can't Trust Them
The Florida vote was WORSE this time than 2000. Lots of good people are working to expose the truth. ReDefeatBush.com now has taken point on the issue. Look to see more in early January.
