Print Your Own Mini Newspaper...spreads like Wild Fire!
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 12:09 PM by goclark
Quick and Easy Way for Us To stop complaining about the Media.
They ain't gonna help us!
We must help ourselves By Any Means Necessary!

I wish that I knew how to make a copy of my Mini Newspaper to show you what I did. The CLIP NEWS, folded and CLIPPED is the size of your hand.

It's better than flyers, business cards, address labels, cheap, quick, can be constantly updated in a matter of minutes, can be sent by email to your email buddies.

I used Microsoft Office AND FIT IT on 1/2 of the page the long way

#1- Head Line - THE CLIP NEWSPAPER

#2-used a clip art picture of paper clips in black and white, used edit to make the art smaller

#3 Used a font(that is not Bold) in light blue for the other hight lighted items which say...

Your link to the TRUTH about the Bush Administration

Make more copies and Pass This On To Friends To Get the Word Out

The Media Won't tell you but CLIP NEWS Will!

#3 - Did snips from two articles, EX: * The Inauguration Protests Plans by Emily Fredrix and William Pitts: Kerry To Enter Ohio Recount Fray

# 4 -Printed it out

# 5 - Folded it in thirds with the Banner Headline showing

# 6 - Took a Paper Clip and Held it together and BINGO!!!!

I put ten in my purse and went to a Birthday Party.
Got into political conversations and gave them all out before one hour!

I'm telling everyone,we must do this.

We can not just keep emailing friends with long articles to read. People don't have time for all that unless they are political junkies like us. :-)

Try it, you'll love it!

A Week of Inauguration Protests Planned
By EMILY FREDRIX, AP

WASHINGTON (Dec. 21) - Groups targeting President Bush's economic agenda, the legitimacy of his election and the war in Iraq plan a week of events to counter his inauguration Jan. 20.
"Our intention is to show President Bush and the world our movement is energized, mobilized and determined to fight back,'' said Gael Murphy, of the activist group Code Pink.

Inauguration week will feature rallies, marches and demonstrations with the focus on peaceful, family-friendly gatherings, said organizer Shahid Buttar. Hundreds of groups throughout the country will participate, Buttar said, including Mobilization for Global Justice and the Committee to ReDefeat the President, a PAC that sees Bush's presidency as illegitimately won.

Editor's Note | Due to a severe snowstorm, the Southern District courthouse was closed today, and Kerry's representatives were unable to file on this issue as intended. They will file on Friday, December 24 if the courthouse is open, or on Monday, December 27. In other words, they will file as soon as they are able to. No one controls the weather, unfortunately. - wrp
Kerry to Enter Ohio Recount Fray
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Report
Thursday 23 December 2004
2004 Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry will file today, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, papers in support of the Green Party/Libertarian Party recount effort. Specifically, Kerry will be filing a request for expedited discovery regarding Triad Systems voting machines, as well as a motion for a preservation order to protect any and all discovery and preserve any evidence on this matter.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of all this, from the activist point of view, has been the effectiveness of the telephone calls and letters to Kerry. The activist push to get him involved had a very significant effect on his decision to enter this effort. Likewise, calls to other Senators in order to convince them to join House members in challenging the election have likewise had significant effect. . effort continues, the activists involved will very likely see the desired result unfold.

3. I agree with you

and applaud you for your efforts in the 80's.

Today we are being lulled into thinking that as January 6th approaches that everyone will run out of their houses to march in the streets.

The MSM will not be filming this time. They are too busy with going to holiday parties with Rove.

We also are lulled into believing that since the internet, we are reaching enough people. No way! We need more people in the streets than the internet bloggers.

4. I've been thinking along the same lines
but more like posters or flyers to put on cars. But can distributing them get me into trouble...?

also-madrchsod-I was a kid in the 60s and your fun avatar caught my eye as from that era-is that guy named Mr. Natural?

5. That's why I like the newspaper

You can pass them out to people that you know would be interested.
My rule is that I don't put anything in it that is not an article from a reliable source.

I'll see how my distribution goes this week and keep everyone informed.
It would be wonderful if others would try it so that we can get it fine tuned before January 6th.

That is critical.

Flyers are big, blow off or make people mad because they have to remove it before they start driving.

I'm not sure about the laws but the Repubs could possibly find a law or invent one. :(

7. BRIEF! no long articles.. you are so right
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 02:50 PM by oscar111
thanks goclark, for saying what the LW needs to hear. We have a "culture" of long articles and books. We think the public is a classroom forced to sit for an hour before we get to the #$##$!!! point.

Rush knows better. Short memes work.

so, in your own paper, boil things down to an "Abstract" the way scientists do before a study. Never print a long article. Use also, lots of SUBHEADLINES in any article.

goclark, your stories would have benefited from subheads..about every 5 or 8 lines. Overall tho, you get an A+++ for the idea and presentation of it.

Another poster here derided flyers as a problem for putting on cars.. well, put them on empty bus seats.. on bus stop benches.. on phone poles.. cafeteria trays, ... even blown ones are read by curious folks like me.. when i see a printed flyer in the street, i read it. If folding is too timeconsuming, do flyers/posters.

12. I tried posting it to the Media Forum

yesterday and it didn't catch on. I was so disappointed because I thought it would be a natural there.

Let me know if you think I should repost.

I gave this thread a new title and I had more details in this thread.

I agree marionsghost, when I passed them out at the Birthday Party they could see my passion and know that it was important that they get the message out.

I was shocked that so many of the guests at the party didn't even know about Kerry's involvement in the Ohio case.

20. I'll post in Media and hope for the best

I'll shout it from the roof top if that would help because the communication in critical to our efforts.

We must get the word out and it is not coming through in the papers or on television.

Let's try this, how could it possibly hurt to give the CLIP NEWS a try?

11. Fantastic ideas oscar111

I'll work on the subheadings, they would catch the eye and the mind.

I was also thinking of sticking editions of the CLIP NEWS between the various papers that advertise apts. for rent etc. The ones that are on the tiny racks that you find next to the lock boxes that enclose the NY Times and all those other papers that you PAY for and then don't even get to read the TRUTH!

:bounce:

Question: Should my articles contain no more than 4 paragraphs and the snip sign or is that just a DU Rule?

14. Take to the mall and pass out to the post-holiday shoppers!
All those people catching after Christmas sales or returning items, or just leaflet cars in the parking lot.

Leave in bookstores, coffeeshops, laundromats, beauty parlors, doctor's waiting rooms--anyplace people have time to browse and read.

I applaud your ingenuity!

32. Liberty Belle You are Turning On Light Bulbs

When I read your post, I thought about Starbucks.
People are always leaving their newspapers in the bins or on the tables. Just slip the CLIP News in the middle of the NY TIMES.

LOL when they happen to see the REAL NEWS after reading the trash lies in the rag of print they just paid for.

I like the idea of slipping CLIP without anyone seeing you put it in a creative location. That way, they can't blame you for doing it.

Let's get the CLIP NEWS rolling.

15. It's a wonderful idea -- here's another
Or actually, several.

Get an yahoo (or other) email address and put it on your little newspapers so people can "susbscribe" by email if they want. Encourage them to print out and distribute your next issues.

See if you can find friendly businesses or other places where you can leave a few. Post them to bulletin boards too, if you can find some. Post a handful and let people take them home.

Develop themed issues, backgrounders if you will -- that way they aren't time sensitive and can be used over and over again, or re-issued at a later date or for special purposes.

And a completely different idea, tho IMO related. This is something I've been thinking about doing (but haven't) -- sponsor NON-PARTISAN current affairs "discussion" or "study groups" at your local library. Lotsa small newspapers and alternative newspapers let you put public affairs or public events notices in for free, and if it's non-partisan, you ought to be able to hold it free at the library AND have flyers about the upcoming event. Host these monthly at a regular time and have handouts ready (good, non-partisan MSM sources) and talking points.

I am really energized by all the ideas.

I'm going to the movies at the Mall tomorrow.

I'll quickly make copies of any hot items in the Latest News in the AM.

Please someone else try it so we can gather more strategies that will let this idea spread like wild fire.

We have just a few precious days until Jan 6th.
I have not heard one word about any Protests of my little TV.

So it's all up to us.

25. Goclark, 4 para rule i think is
a result of copywrite laws. I think the law says "brief execrpts for review and other purposes" or somesuch.

But if you paraphrase, i think you have not broken cpywte law. Really paraphrase, in your own words and rearranged ideas. Not too sure on this point.

Might also use DU threads composed of our comments, not news items.... I think our comments here are cpywrted by DU, and likely DU would not mind you using them. Natch, might post in the admin forum and ask, to be sure of permission.

Dutch model of paying all authors a fixed wage, no copywrite, gets rid of all the throttling of idea spread, which cpwte does to ideas.
Copywrite has crippled human progress immensely... and is part of the greedhead world.

Many authors penniless as a result of no fixed wage, .. in Holland it is/was? guaranteed like the tenure of professors. Our system here, authors millionaires or starving. In holland, all authors are/were middle class and calm. I read of it 2O years ago, not sure how it is now.

Like your idea of inserting papers into stacks of the other papers. Do similar to cafeteria trays' stacks.

27. pink color:phone poles:be sure URL's are on it
Pink is the most eyecatching color.

Put on telephone poles

be very sure to put many url's on it. Liked the idea of a "net addy"... like the yahoo ones.. which dont easily trace back to you personally... as a way for others to e-subscribe to e versions of the paper.

Add also the dem party site, since it is the only one i know that automatically sends out enewsletters to LW types. Many are passive dems and will not click up nice places like DU. Auto newsletters are needed to reach them.

So list:
-ur net addy
-dem party addy
-DU
-AAR online addy..airamericaradio.com {aar is very important..it is our best hope for changing the millions to our side}

Might print on both sides of your paper, to say more.

Pink must be faint if the print is to be readable.

AVOID tiny type. tt is the second most common error of printing.
