I just cancelled my NY Times subscription, which I had threatened to do about a week ago, when I wrote the public editor a long letter about the lack of coverage on the election.
I have seen two editorials, but not any real news coverage. Although I have also stopped reading it. Anyway, the fellow on the phone wanted to know why, and I told him it was because they were not reporting the news about what is going on with the election. Of course, he knew nothing about it, but eventually became very dismissive, because the other papers weren't reporting it either. I said, well, the NY Times is our "paper of record". He said he would put a note in my profile, that I dropped it because they were squelching the news about the election But he was treating me as if he thought I was a complete nutcase. You know, it suddenly dawned on him that he was talking to a "crazy".
Anyone else had any interaction with the Times? I know I saw something from the public editor that hinted that they would begin covering it. But have they? Did I miss something earth-shaking?

once the bastion of trust in news reporting has sadly joined the tabloids and the rest of the rw media in reporting Karl Rove's talking points of the day. I guess they figured, "if you can't beat 'em...join 'em."
I am even becoming a little concerned about the very liberal Village Voice. Lately, they have had some very rw-leaning articles. Are they just being "fair and balanced?" Only time will tell.

4. Sadly, I cancelled my subscription about 3 years ago |
|
for similar reasons.
Ever since the WTC thing, they've ceased to report the news and have acted as enablers for BushCo.

5. I've been wanting to cancel mine for awhile but I want to explain why I'm |
|
cancelling at the same time, not just to the operator who takes subscription information. What number did you call or can I cancel online and write a letter along with my cancellation? If you could give me a heads up I'd appreciate it. I'll also write to the public editor, but he's not the person who can relay my message of disillusionment and disgust with 'the paper of record' to the bottom line department.

12. I sent two e-,mails of explanation, |
|
I e-mailed the publisher, and then later on the public editor.
I only got around to doing it yesterday, but I haven't been reading it. I think your best bet is the public editor. I think it's public@nytimes.com. But it could be public.editor@nytimes.com.

9. NYT has had more coverage than any non-Ohio/Florida paper... |
|
...except maybe the Boston Globe (aka Kerry Country) and Washington Post.
However, the NYT is only reporting on Votergate for their own vanity, because they intend to get a Pulitizer for it the way the Washington Post got glory for Watergate, so I suggest reading them for free on line.
If you want to see newspapers absolutely positively do everything they can to avoid printing anything about Votergate, come to Texas. The Fort Worth Star Telegram has an almost complete media blackout, though after I sent them an extremely sarcastic letter they did slip in a tiny AP story which they buried.

He didn't know anything was going on about the election, so it had to be me. That was precisely my point. The Times is hiding it.
I just don't understand how anybody with a brain, that can add, can look at the numbers and not see fraud. But maybe it is just something that all brains don't do so well? Reporters are supposed to be able to figure that stuff out. You'd think at least ONE of them would be curious enough to really take a look, and then they'd want to cover it. But no. I wonder if it's really complete lack of interest, or if it's coming down from on high.

I read it on the train. I guess I'll start carrying my knitting.
Actually, I stopped reading it when they were being so awful to Clinton. But keeping up with the news is part of my job, in a way. I'll just have to be selective, and do it on line. Maybe I'll subscribe to the Wall St. Journal for a change! Or the Financial Times.
Usually the Journal isn't so bad as far as reporting the news; it's just their editorial page that is so extreme. But they aren't reporting this either.
