SOMEONE for the love of God go to Fairfield County Ohio and demand to know
why their tabulation computer is SITTING WITH AN ACTIVE ROUTER ON IT DAMMIT! The explanation they gave me the day we were doing the handcount did not sit well with me:

"It is only connected to our internal LAN...nothing outside this building, it is part of our main database, so other workers can access the database so they can do their jobs"

Yes by God, that may be true, but Jayzus H Christ, how do the rest of your computers connect to the Internet?

"Well, I can't answer that"

OK, what OS are you using...XP? Using Terminal Services at all? How about Novell? Is your connection an open Broadband connection, or dial up? Are you using a firewall? What type of database are you using?

"????? I don't understand your question"

Of course you wouldn't.

Additionally, although it appeared to be off, there was an external modem connected as well. Now, I understand that they have to send information to their website on election night, and to the SOS, but hey, why not USE THAT DAMN ROUTER AND YOUR INTERNAL LAN INTERNET CONNECTION, cause I KNOW you have one.

Someone more computer literate help me out here. I did see the Novell start up screen, however, it looked to me like the damn tabulation program was DOS based. ES&S punch card. Also, why the ROUTER if they have a NIC connection too?
