in case we get separated during a crisis? I'm just a little paranoid about a flu outbreak, computer blackout etc.... I know it is a little much but if fraud is proved something drastic will have to happen to keep the criminals in office. Can we exchange other e-mails and cell numbers so we will know what is happening? Your thoughts please.

2. I would suggest caution
exchanging cell phone numbers publicly. Even privately, for that matter, but definitely publicly.

11. Every DU member should do this: Go to the forum directory,
Look up the member who is just ahead and just after you alphabetically. Send them a private e-mail and exchange contact info (e-mail, phone, fax). Ask them to do the same for the person above and below them on the list. If DU ever gets the plug pulled, we could reconstruct DU elsewhere or keep in contact offline if necessary for vital info.

5. If you're at all tech-savvy, and want privacy, check out WASTE
I haven't gotten around to installing it yet... but it looks pretty cool.

WASTE (by the same guy who wrote WinAmp) is supposed to provide unbreakable encrypted communication via the internet.

http://waste.sourceforge.net/

WASTE is an anonymous, secure, and encryped collaboration tool which allows users to both share ideas through the chat interface and share data through the download system. WASTE is RSA secured, and has been heralded as the most secure P2P connection protocol currently in development.

WASTE is a software product and protocol that enables secure distributed communication for small (on the order of 10-50 nodes) trusted groups of users.

WASTE is designed to enable small companies and small teams within larger companies to easily communicate and collaborate in a secure and efficient fashion, independent of physical network topology.

- WASTE is currently available for 32-bit Windows operating systems as a client and server, Mac OS X as a limited client and server, and as a limited functionality server for Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Windows. Porting to other operating systems should be a breeze, as the source is provided (and the network code itself is pretty portable).

- WASTE is licensed under the GPL.

- WASTE currently provides the following services:
--- Instant Messaging (with presence)
--- Group Chat
--- File browsing/searching
--- File transfer (upload and download)

6. Living with such paranoia must be awful-----in a crisis,a real crisis,
DU,or any other website for that matter, would be the least of my concerns.
