Ohio Recount Ends, Shows Vote Closer

Ohio Finishes Presidential Recount, Showing Bush and Kerry About 300 Votes Closer
The Associated Press
TOLEDO, Ohio Dec 28, 2004
....
  • The completion of the recount will not bring an end to questions surrounding the vote in Ohio.

A group of voters citing fraud have challenged the election results with the Ohio Supreme Court. The voters, supported by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, have cited irregularities including long lines, a shortage of voting machines in minority precincts and problems with computer equipment.

Attorney General Jim Petro has called the challenge frivolous and argued that the state Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction over a federal election.

3. When you recount fixed results from fraudulent ballots, you still
get fraudulent results.

6. the 300 new votes for Kerry came from recount of 3% of ballots, no?
so add 100 votes per percentage point = 100,000 new votes for Kerry, no? Seems the news coverage though implies that they recounted 100% of the ballots not 3%. whaz up w/ dat? or am i missing something?

9. no, it was 300 out of ALL the votes
the 3% is essentially used to verify the accuracy of the machines versus a hand count. If the 3% hand count and the machine count of the same 3% match, then ALL the votes are recounted through the machine.

8. I think 3% were counted by hand
And when they "matched" previous count, the rest was recounted by machine. I may be mistaken.

Nevertheless, see posts 2 and 3 above.

11. oh, i forgot for a moment, the recount was thoroughly rigged too, so who
cares what it's all-too predictable 'results' are. that IS the tenor of Conyers letters re Triad etc.

Wait a minute, isn't this from the same people that complained that federal government DOES NOT have jurisdiction over the election officials/system of a state? So who the fuck does have JURIS-DICK-TION then? The local Moose lodge?

13. I was wondering the same thing ... if the state doesn't have
jurisdiction then why does Blackwell have any say over the election?

15. The state Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction?
A federal election?

I thought that elections were the provinces of the states. If they're not, then why don't we have a uniform national election? And why do we have that ridiculous Electoral College?

18. maybe we never had a democracy and we're just now realizing it
no one has jurisdiction? Little wonder voting machine companies just materialized out of thin air and quietly privatize US elections.
