Did Olbermann copy me? - "Them's fightin' words"
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 12:56 AM by garybeck
This is not that important but kind of interesting/entertaining.

Minutes after the Break For News report on Christmas Eve, I sent an alert to about 1,000 people who signed up for the Solar Bus email news alert.

In the alert, I described the Break For News report in my own words and provided a link to the story. When I described the report, I showed the quote from the Kerry lawyer saying that the confidence in the election was at stake. I followed the quote by saying, "As Bugs Bunny used to say, 'them's fightin' words'"

I just read Olbermann's blog from 12/27, three days after my alert. In it he talks about the Kerry announcement and also says "Them's fightin' words". He attributes the quote to Yosemite Sam, not Bugs Bunny, and he's probably correct.

I'm just wondering. Olbermann's blog is 3 days after my email went out and I know that it gets copied, pasted, and forwarded all over the place.

Do you think Olbermann got a copy of my email and liked the "them's fightin' words" quote and put it in his blog?

Or is it just a coincidence?

Not that I care, I'd be more psyched to know that he is reading my alert than concerned that he's copying me. but it seems unlikely that two people would think of using that quote...

by the way, if anyone wants to get on my email alert list just send a request to election-email(at)solarbus.org

but to be honest most of what's in my alerts has already been posted on DU

3. I haven't seen that phrase in a long time. My guess is that
Olbermann did see the email alert somewhere.

11. yeah, but...
none of the google hits mentioned Bugs Bunny or Yosemite Sam.

I think his attributing the quote to Sam increases the likelihood that he read my alert. but again I want to say, I don't care if he copies me and I'll never know if he did. I just raised my eyebrows a bit when I read his blog and I thought it would be entertaining to mention it here.

5. He's a nice man... he pretends he's not
but he is.

I've seen ideas I've floated in his blogs. He reads us.. so, sure, why not!

But, "them's fightin' words" are frequently used in Southern conversations. LOL!

;)

just appear. Writers remember words, phrases in a very unique way. So, although the phrase is common, it is specific to that blog's topic.

So Gary, you owe YoSam $20.
