DUers! Lets draft Senator Robert Byrd to contest the election!
Robert Byrd may be the only senator who doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks of him. I mean really, what other senator is in that position, and who can afford to be that outspoken? And has already been that outspoken?

Email is low effort, perhaps we need Washington DC DUers or Virginia DUers to conduct a vigil in front of his senate office or home, for Byrd to be the savior.

1. This would blow people's minds!
Of course, the ONLY House members challenging the election are from the Black Caucus. Byrd has always carried the weight of a very bad decision as a very young man. The power of him doing this and uniting with the Caucus is just too much to hope for. We'll see but if he does, watch out!

He's often been the ONLY Senator to speak out about the crimes and sins of this mis-administration. I'll take that as a better indicator than whether or not there's anything on his Congressional web site.

14. From the Greens' recount listserv...
12/29/04

A delegation of West Virginia Citizens today met with Anne Smith, State Director of US Senator Robert Byrd's Charleston office. We presented Ms Barth with a letter to Senator Byrd requesting him to challenge the certification of the electoral votes until the legal challenges to the voting in Ohio can be resolved.

Ms Barth commented that they were getting calls and messages in support of the challenge. Please take time to contact Byrd and ask him to uphold our constitutional right to a fair and open election process by challenging the electoral vote on Jan 6th. Call 202-224-3954 - Byrd's Washington Office.

Ms Barth also asked for copies of NYT, Washington Post or other nationally recognized news articles on the Ohio vote situation. She specifically requested faxed copies of actual printed news articles, not web copies. Her fax number is 304-343-7144.

Representatives of WV Common Cause, WV Citizen Action Group, West Virginians for HAVA (verified voting group), WV Mountain Party, WV Patriots for Peace and others attended the meeting and signed the letter.

He is a true statesman.

This is a great idea. I will phone his office.

Might be good to mention some of the evidence presented to Conyers. He probably wants mainstream-type sources.

20. Here's how you can contact him and other Congress peeps
1. Go to http://thedeanpeople.com

2. Click on Here's What to Do - Now!

3. Scroll down the page until you see this section:

"Faxing to them would be the next best. Either local or DC office
should do, but the DC staff is usually more important to the boss. You can
use our Action Alert page to send a pre-made fax that you can
customize."

4. Click on the Action Alert Page link and follow the instructions from there.

It's that easy!

I have done this several times now using different zip codes from various places where I've lived. I used zips from AL, KY and TN. I think that I'll put in zips at random and just send emails left, right and sideways!

Come on, guys! Let's get those faxes going!!!

25. This is what I sent to Byrd.
For the sake of U.S. citizens both present and future, I urge you to seriously evaluate the legitimacy of electors on January 6th, 2005. Americans are relying on you, and all of our elected representatives, to defend the Constitution. You have an obligation to respect the democratic process by ensuring the validity of our elections.

Verifiable evidence of vote suppression and compelling indications of vote manipulation in Ohio, New Mexico, Florida and other states have been detailed by thousands of witnesses. Given the testimony we have seen thus far and the over 50,000 voter complaints filed since November 2 in Ohio alone, you have legitimate reasons for challenging the presidential electors.

Whether we are experiencing a concerted effort to control the outcome, isolated instances of fraud, lack of training, good faith human error, poor planning for unexpected voter turnout, a lack of funds, flawed software, vulnerable computer networks or some combination of the above; Americans deserve to know for certain that every vote counts and every vote is counted. Our nation cannot serve as a shining example of democracy if it cannot fulfill that responsibility to its own electorate.

I can certainly sympathize with reluctance to initiate a "constitutional crisis," but I also feel quite strongly that complicit silence will result in a far greater crisis. Now is the time to address the problem even if the work necessary to regain voter confidence is painful and messy. Such is the onus of representative leadership.

53. SENATOR BYRD CONTACT INFO:
Contacting Senator Byrd

Because of security concerns raised after letters containing anthrax were mailed to Senators' offices in the fall of 2001, tighter mail security procedures have been implemented to improve the screening of mail that comes to Congress to help guard against future incidents involving biological or chemical agents. These security procedures cause short delays in mail service to and from my office

Because of those delays, I urge you to consider additional options to contact my office for assistance:

Fax your letter to my Charleston office at 304-343-7144;
Call my Washington office at 202-224-3954. If you leave your name and telephone number, your call will be returned as soon as possible;
Call my Charleston office at 304-342-5855;
Go to my e-mail page. http://byrd.senate.gov/byrd_email.html

You also can continue to contact me through the U.S. Postal Service:

letter as follows

Pamela Grim, MD
7 Governors Trace
Beaufort, SC 29907

December 30, 2004

The Honorable Robert C. Byrd
United States Senate
311 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510-4801

Dear sir,

I am urging you to act to end the nightmare that our government has become. George Bush arrived at the presidency through election fraud four years ago and he has been reelected in the same manner. How can we let this stand? How can we allow more young men and women be used as RPG fodder in Iraq? How can we watch our own government threaten to attack yet another country justifying it’s actions with yet more misleading and downright false intelligence? How can we survive another four years filled with phony terror threats—laser beams in pilots’ eyes today, anthrax in chicken soup tomorrow. How long do we have news reports that claim American military personnel knew they had found Al Qaada headquarters in Fallugha when they found a building with a sign reading “Al Qaada Headquarters” mounted over a door? I could go on and on but you know the drill.

I am requesting that you join Representative John Conyors in objecting to the Ohio state electors as they now stand. You know all the reasons why, I am sure. If we continue as we are are at present there will only be more war dead, more national debt, and America will only sink lower in the eyes of the world. Someone with a national voice must speak out and I am begging you to speak out for those of us who will otherwise never be heard.

Sinerely,

Pamela Grim, MD

60. Robert Byrd
Hey, guys...don't attack me because I am new here, but I have a question:

Shouldn't we draft someone with a little more credibility than Robert Byrd? His history and voting record leave him too open to a scorched earth response from *. If our advocate in the senate is discredited, then much of our effort will be discredited by default.

Unfortunately, in this sound bite world, perception truly becomes reality.
