Rossi to have news conference tonight (Wed) to say he won't concede--

The secretary of state (WA) certifies results Thursday, making Democrat Christine Gregoire the governor-elect.

After more than 2.8 million votes were counted three times, she won by 129 votes.

But Republican Dino Rossi is not conceding. He called a news conference at his Bellevue headquarters Wednesday evening to say there are too many questions remaining.

Rossi had won the first count by 261 votes and the first recount by 42.

The new governor will be sworn in Jan. 12. Republicans have until Jan. 20 to contest the election in court.

The night before Washington's secretary of state was scheduled to certify Democrat Christine Gregoire as the governor-elect, her Republican rival Dino Rossi called for a complete re-do of the longest, closest governor's race in state history.

"The uncertainty surrounding this election process isn't just bad for you and me -- it is bad for the entire state. People need to know for sure that the next governor actually won the election," Rossi said Wednesday evening, reading from a letter he sent to Gregoire.

"A revote would be the best solution for the people of our state, and would give us a legitimate governorship," the letter added.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Republican Dino Rossi on Wednesday urged his Democratic rival in the closest governor's race in state history to join him in calling for a revote.

``The uncertainty surrounding this election process isn't just bad for you and me - it is bad for the entire state,'' Rossi said, reading from a letter he said he sent to Democrat Christine Gregoire. ``People need to know for sure that the next governor actually won the election.''

A call to the Gregoire campaign was not immediately returned. She is scheduled to be certified as Washington's governor-elect Thursday, by a scant 129 votes out of more than 2.8 million cast.
