At least the California secession movement is getting air time....

I just received this message from Jeff Morrissette, head of Move On California:

Greetings and best wishes for the new year.

Move On California continues to steamroll forward and is picking up energy and interest throughout the state. I'll try and keep this update very brief.

Media requests come in daily---some of you have seen or heard me recently on KFBK or KOVR13 in Sacramento, KFI in Los Angeles, KPFA in Berkeley, KEYT in Santa Barbara or elsewhere. It is a little bit overwhelming for someone who has always shunned the spotlight. I am the least likely person to spark a revolution.

Some common themes have been emerging as we talk about California independence and I think we've struck a chord across a wide cross-section of voters and political views.

Without the repub machine (and the voting machines), he'd probably get the boot anyhow! Californians are smarter than that, and I don't think he's as popular as his publicity agents and media counsultants would have you believe.

5. I think we should join Mexico.
Nice, peace loving country. No death penalty. Big on family and community values (real ones). Tossed out the fascists and the priests in the Revolution. Beloved revolutionaries (the Zapatistas) can march down the middle of the street in the capitol city unmolested, to cheering crowds. Beautiful language. Lots of ties between us. In fact, we belonged to them once, and it could well be said that the land still belongs to the most indigenous among them. Not without problems, truly, but compare: BushWorld vs. Mexico. Who do you want your taxes to benefit? Who do you want speaking for you to the rest of the world?

We can provide great economic engine, high tech creativity, Yankee can do attitude, and they can teach us how to live: music, art, love of family, kindness, the cherishing of children, self-sacrifice, community spirit.

In order to do it, we would BOTH have to get rid of the corporate entities that are controlling and exploiting us. I'm all for that.

You're worried that it's a third world country, lots of poverty? Look out, friend! The U.S. is bankrupt. Millions of jobs outsourced. Social Security next to be looted. We're becoming a third world country ourselves (and not because of immigration--immigrants are the most hardworking people in the world!)

Nope. Think of this: Not having to pay Halliburton any more. Not having to pay Dick Cheney. Not having to pay for the Iraq war, in money and blood. Not having to pay DIEBOLD to steal your votes! And not being the target of every jihadist in the world because your leaders are mass murderers and war criminals.

It could be Mexico wouldn't want us. But we could ask.

(Note: Personally, I make no judgements of the so-called "red" states. We don't know how they voted in this extremely fraudulent election. I suspect many of them went "blue," if the truth were known. Besides, all of them contain at least half "blue" voters. It's not other Americans that I would want to distance myself from. I love most Americans, even some of the deluded. It's that I believe we've suffered a fascist coup; I don't know if we will be able to get power back into the peoples' hands; and meanwhile the fascist coup, this criminal conspiracy, the BushCons, is bleedying us dry to support their oil wars. They have absolutely no loyalty or care for this country or its people. They are a wrecking crew. And it is very odious to be forced to support them, and to be in any way a part of what they are doing. In short, the above is not "A Modest Proposal." I'm serious about it.)

7. What if we started with Baja California?
Thanks Peace Patriot for the thoughtful post. As you know, California has its share of staunch Republicans, but I like to think of most of them as being apart from the breed which is currently running Washington D.C. (there are always exceptions to the rule, of course).

Having spent all my life in Calif. I grew up in an area which was very much a melting pot of many cultures, having many Latino friends, and I am also very mindful of the fact that Mexicans once ruled the territory first. California's relationship with Mexico is unique in that Mexico "outsources" much of the labor required for our agriculture industry. Parts of Mexico also have beachfront resorts and high-end condo and other residential areas which could generate potential tax revenue. Security might be improved by extending our jursidiction beyond the current southern border. I can see many problems being solved by annexing Baja into the Republic of California.

13. I am a Northern Californian...
In many ways, I feel more akin to Mexico than the east coast, anyway. We used to be Mexico! Our city names and street names are in Spanish. A border is just an imaginary line on a map (and in peoples' minds). California and Mexico share much culture.

Then we wouldn't be the #1 terrorist target in the US.

Though, B*shitler would probably A-Bomb us into the Atlantic.

16. I understand how people feel...
But I think this would be a really bad idea. Without CA, there would be virtually no hope of Liberals regaining control of the US. Then it wouldn't be too long before Californians found themselves next to a highly militaristic fascist superpower...and living on land that said fascists probably consider to be rightfully theirs.

But hey, Poland was once in that situation and nothing bad happened to them...right?

17. This is MY country.
Why should I leave? This is my home; I'm staying to fight for it. When I'm certain that there is absolutely no hope left, I might think of leaving. But this is nuts and wayyyy too premature.

21. I just received this from Jeff today which relates to your question:

"Yes, I think it would be natural for other states, e.g. Hawaii, Washington and Oregon, to consider this as well. If it picks up enough steam here then I think it is logical to embrace a broader coalition of states, especially those that are geographically and culturally similar."
