The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is Much in News Lately!

A Google News search for it turns up over a thousand recent news stories from all over!

So maybe now they'll start enforcing it again and send some corrupt officials like Kenneth Blackwell to jail.

The Act turned up in a San Francisco Bay View article about Rep. John Conyers, who represents 8 mile road in Detroit where I used to live :yourock: http://www.sfbayview.com/122904/votethieves122904.shtml

Well, you can do the search yourself and find plenty of interesting stuff.

1. LBJ and his RADICAL agenda,
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 03:35 AM by happyslug
We should give thanks that the GOP has been trying since 1969 to UNDO LBJ's radical agenda of the Great Society Program, the War on Poverty, the Model City Concept, Legal Assistance to the Poor, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc. (Sarcasm off)

The Republicans have been working since 1969 to undo what LBJ did from 1964 through 1968. When are they going to get around to gutting both the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 And the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

My brother is a lawyer who says we need a whole new Voting Rights Act that can be enforced by suits from the citizens, not just the Federal Government. Because the whole regime in Washington these days, depends on denying certain people's voting rights.

I agree with Howard Dean, that we will have to fight this one out one state at a time.
