Citizens Stage (Barbara) 'Boxer Rebellion' in San Francisco
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 03:56 PM by WilliamPitt
Citizens Stage 'Boxer Rebellion' in San Francisco

At January 3 Rally, Civic Groups Will Urge U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer to
Join House Leaders in Challenging the 2004 Election Results

Support from Just One U.S. Senator is Required to Sustain Congressional
Challenge

Concerned citizens and civic organizations will present thousands of
voter petitions to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif) at her San
Francisco office during a public press conference and rally on Monday,
January 3, 12 noon. They will urge Boxer to challenge the results of the
2004 presidential election at a joint session on January 6, 2005, when
Congress meets to ratify the vote. Key organization leaders will
personally present the petitions to Boxer's deputy at a meeting inside
her office. Rev. Jesse Jackson will also lead a rally that day to
challenge the vote in Columbus, Ohio.

Challenge Requires Senatorial Support

Support from a U.S. Senator is a key step in the challenge process,
which requires participation from both the House of Representatives and
the Senate. If at least one member of each house makes a written
challenge when the Congress meets in joint session on January 6, 2005,
Congress members will return to their respective chambers and conduct a
time-limited debate going on the election results.

Rep. John Conyers, ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee,
recently announced that on January 6, he and several other members of
the House will object to the counting of the Ohio Electors. Conyers is
expected to seek additional support from the following Senators: Joseph
Biden (DE), Jeff Bingaman (NM), Barbarba Boxer (CA), Robert Byrd (WV),
Hillary Clinton (NY), Kent Conrad (ND), Jon Corzine (NJ), Christopher
Dodd (CT), Byron Dorgan (ND), Richard Durbin (IL), Russell Feingold
(WI), Tom Harkin (IA), Daniel Inyoue (HI), James Jeffords (VT), Edward
Kennedy (MA), John Kerry (MA), Frank Lautenberg (NJ), Patrick Leahy
(VT), Carl Levin (MI), Joseph Lieberman (CT), Barbara Mikulski (MD),
Bill Nelson (FL), Jack Reed (RI), Harry Reid (NV), Jay Rockefeller (WV),
Paul Sarbanes (MD), Debbie Stabenow (MI), Ron Wyden (OR), and the newly
elected Barack Obama (IL).

"We expect several members of the House to call for a challenge, but
without a single supporter from the Senate, Congress cannot act," said
Don Goldmacher, Chair of Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club's Voting
Rights Task Force. "This is the scenario we faced after the last
election -- memorialized so well in "Fahrenheit 9/11" -- when no U.S.
Senator stood up to support members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
We can't let that happen again. As Jesse Jackson has said, 'we are not
whining for a lost election, but crying out for a fair one.'"

Detailing evidence and testimonials of voter suppression and
intimidation at the press conference will be the following civic and
political leaders: DOLORES HUERTA, United Farm Workers co-founder and
civil rights leader; WALTER RILEY, labor/civil rights attorney, East Bay
Votes; MARGOT SMITH, Gray Panthers; MICHAEL EISENSCHER, U. S. Labor
Against the War; MAX ANDERSON, Berkeley City Council, 1st Municipal
Voting Rights Resolution; TIM PAULSON, Executive Director, San Francisco
Labor Council, AFL-CIO; and MICHAEL GOLDSTEIN, Harvey Milk LGBT
Democratic Club.

The speakers will address numerous charges of suppression, intimidation,
machine error and fraud in several key states. Problems encountered in
Ohio include waits as long as eleven hours at polling places; shortages
of poll workers and voting machines; electronic voting machines that
malfunctioned; election-counting discrepancies; voters being directed to
the wrong polling place, and uneven policies governing the use of
provisional ballots. In Florida, questions persist regarding fraud as
well as irregularities in counties that relied on paperless electronic
voting machines. In New Mexico, there is ample evidence that
approximately 21,000 undervotes occurred in heavily Democratic precincts
on machines that are known to produce faulty counts. A recount would
certainly have overturned the election outcome.

Citizens are encouraged to attend, wave signs and show their support for
the presidential election challenge. Participants can get to Boxer's
office at 1700 Montgomery Avenue, San Francisco, by public
transportation. Many are planning to walk to Boxer's office starting at
11am from the Embarcadero BART station.

E-Voting Problems Hurt Republicans and Democrats Alike

Speakers will address other recent instances of irregularities in the
electronic voting system, including the Washington State gubernatorial
race where the results recently shifted in favor of Christine Gregoire,
the Democratic challenger, after voting officials discovered that
electronic voting machines incorrectly tallied 500 votes for Dino Rossi,
the Republican in the race. Rossi is now calling for a state-wide revote.

"It's interesting that Republicans are willing to look at e-voting
problems when the results go against them," said Goldmacher. "Rossi
recently told voters that the 'uncertainty surrounding this election
process isn't just bad for you and me -- it is bad for the entire
state,' and that 'people need to know for sure that the next governor
actually won the election.' Those are the same concerns that voters have
about the 2004 presidential election. We urge all political parties to
advocate the same principles of fairness to all elections."

14. I am, and the SFChron reporter you need to contact is
Wyatt Buchanan: wbuchanan@sfchronicle.com

He wrote the really terrible articles on this issue. And it was so wierd. I'd email him about, say, the Ohio videos. He'd reply, "This is amazing!" Then, he'd write this ka article -- maybe the Hearsts are defending their castle or something.

(So, see, seito, lol, I've been doing my homework since 11/3.)

38. Yes, rallies are planned at all Boxer field offices--LA, Fresno, San Bern.

Here is the thread from the wee hours:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x215209

Rallies across California at Sen. Boxer's field offices MONDAY, JAN. 3 at noon

Calling California Democrats:

Despite documented evidence of egregious voter suppression, unauditable "blackbox" vote counts defying the exit polls, and illegal obstruction of the Ohio recount, the Ohio slate of electors are about to be counted in Congress, handing the presidency to George Bush in a second stolen election.

Now is the time to stand up for our Democracy if ever there was one.

Today (12/30) Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has announced he and other members of the House will stand in opposition to the electors from Ohio when Congress convenes January 6 to count the Electoral College and determine the presidential election results. For a news link to John Conyers' letter to all Senators and Congressmembers requesting a debate of the Ohio election results, click here:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240 /

By law, members of the House need one Senator to stand with them to challenge. Don't let this be a repeat of the stolen election of 2004
when not one Senator would answer the call to oppose the illegitimate electors of Florida.

Join the "We need one Senator" campaign by organizing a press conference or rally at the office of Senator Barbara Boxer in your area. (See Locations below)

Rallies are being planned in San Francisco and other cities at noon on Monday 1/3 in conjunction with the Ohio rally, "We The People Demand Democracy: Count Every Vote, Every Vote Counts," hosted by a coalition led by Rev. Jesse Jackson which includes:

Rainbow Push, MoveOn.org, Cobb/LaMarch Green Party campaign, Progressive Democrats of America, United for Peace and Justice, Code Pink, ReDefeatBush, Silicon Valley Dean Democrats, Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club, Defend the Commons, and numerous other organizations.

Congressmembers Rep. Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters have been contacted to launch the day with morning press conferences in their respective cities. We will keep you informed of these events as they develop.

Monday morning, January 3 will launch a week of actions culminating in Washington DC before the actual vote count at 1:00 pm.

26. Wyden's office is clueless
I went to his office with a petition signed by a bunch of folks asking our man to stand up on the 6th. His receptionist (Loretta) was polite and said they had gotten a TON of calls about this. But she seemed amazingly clueless about what the concerns were. She seemed to have no information and asked me if I was "working with Michael Moore". Keep calling!! Ask for Loretta!!

48. Also see this that was delivered to Wyden's aide by Multnomah Dems.

Note this was delivered to them in November. Had it been now, the text would probably be stronger, given all that has surfaced, and would have cited Conyer's work, but NOTE IN PARTICULAR:

"a public pledge to challenge the electors from any and all states where irregularities and possible fraud have surfaced"

Letter is at: http://www.dpo.org/news/documents/1780.html

We, the representative body of Oregon Democrats urge an immediate and thorough investigation into extensive voting irregularities occurring nationwide during the November 2 election and raising grave doubts as to the validity of the election.

Such irregularities include, but are not limited to the following:

-Numerous reports of efforts to delay or discourage voting or actually purge voter registrations in pre-dominantly African-American and low-income districts

-Precincts in Ohio showing vote counts ten times higher than the number of registered voters

-Reports of "Touch screen" voting machines registering votes for the candidate NOT selected

-Reports of Broward County, Florida machines counting "backward"

-Partisan wrongdoing by the very people elected and appointed to safeguard this most precious of all rights afforded citizens in a free democratic society

Voting is the absolute bedrock of our democracy. Now, not later, is the time to investigate all 2004 voting irregularities with unrelenting persistence, vigor, and a total commitment to 100% reliable election results in order to honor and protect our democracy.

We encourage and will support our elected officials as follows:

U.S. Representatives Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, Darlene Hooley, David Wu, and Greg Walden we encourage and support

-a public and aggressive participation, alongside Congressional Representatives Conyers, Nadler, Wexler, Holt, Scott, Watt, Baldwin, Miller, Slaughter, Filner, Lee, Meeks, Olver, and Schakowsky in calling upon the Government Accountability Office (GAO), to perform a timely and thorough investigation into all voting irregularities nationwide
-a public pledge to challenge the electors from any and all states where irregularities and possible fraud have surfaced

Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith, we encourage and support

-a public pledge to step forward and concur with any such challenges to state electors brought by members of the U.S. House of Representatives

Americans need assurances that their elected representatives are working with steadfast determination to ensure every vote is counted.

Your efforts to this end may be difficult and will likely be challenged by those currently satisfied with the perceived election results. However, for those who believe that America's promise of "liberty and justice" and a counted vote "for all" MUST be honored, your efforts will be recognized as nothing less than heroic.

Yes, it would be great to have pickets at every Senator's office in the country.

The Republicans need to disavow Republican election officials' outrageous and illegal behavior toward black voters in Ohio and Florida, and toward other minorities and Democratic voters there and elsewhere.

The Democrats need to stand in the great tradition of their "big tent" party, which wrote and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and demand an end to black and minority vote suppression NOW. Enough! No more! Ohio and Florida were a disgrace to the nation.

All need to stand for transparent elections, and the rights of all voters, and affirm their belief in "consent of the governed." Secret source code and paperless voting must go!

They are all in disrepute at the moment, the whole bunch of them--the Republicans who rigged this election, and the Democrats who let them set up this extremely fraud-prone election system with no controls and verification procedures--and who failed to loudly object and failed to warn voters.

They now have a chance to redeem themselves, and to become the leaders and patriots that they claim to be. We shall see who believes in democracy and who does not.

"It's interesting that Republicans are willing to look at e-voting
problems when the results go against them," said Goldmacher.

44. Someone send this vote machine fraud documentation to Boxer & speakers
Free Press site has lots of documentation of systematic suppression of minorities and both machine fraud and other types of fraud in Ohio,
along with affidavits from voters, experts, officials
http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19

as does Richard Phillips site: http://northnet.org/minstrel/alpage.htm

and documentation of widespread vote machine fraud and suppression of minorities in Florida and New Mexico at
http://www.flcv.com/fraudpat.html

46. Someone should also go over the exit poll data and TIA's work
It would make it look like a bigger deal if the statistical analysis were presented at this rally, instead of a bunch of minorities whining about long lines (I know it is technically illegal and supression, but nobody mainstream is going to look at it that way). All the facts need to be presented here.
