If nothing changes, in 2006 we need to...
Worst-case scenario in 2006 and future elections -- no reforms, no improvements, status quo.

We'll either have to decide it isn't worth going through the motions anymore (a repulsive notion!) ... or spend more than a half a day figuring out how to thwart the vote thieves.

While it's a given that improvements are desperately needed, and should be our priority, I propose it's equally important to craft a Plan B that isn't a hasty after-thought. Serious time, money and attention needs to be dedicated to researching the "creative" variety of devious methods employed by the repukes to 1) defraud, 2) suppress and 3) disenfranchise votes and voters.

The ultimate goal of Plan B will be to devise our own methods to counteract the rethugs.

For example, we know a favorite ploy is to provide fewer voting machines than needed in Democratic precincts. We need to create a body whose responsibility is to identify all Dem precincts, determine ideal machine numbers for each, propose ways of making that happen and following through.

Rethug Ploy
Too few machines

Countermeasure
ID needs, make sure they're met

I do realize that there are several areas that are difficult or impossible to effectively counteract. Electronic vote tampering falls in that category. Areas such as these are complex and require entire campaigns of their own.

But the repukes have been extremely talented in unsophisticated vote suppression for decades. The Dems need to catch up quickly and institute programs to prevent it from happening.

Let's start constructing a preliminary laundry list of crimes and countermeasures, one that can perhaps serve as a starting point for serious work in the weeks/months to come.
