Please provide your best guess. Feel free to explain your view.

BTW...My guess is tonight or tomorrow but, I don't know who(or how many).

3. while I agree with WI Dem....
I think at least one Dem Sen will need to get up to go to the bathroom. And unless they intend to crawl down the aisle, they'll have to stand up.

13. Well
I do believe that Congressman Conyers would not say that there will be a senator to stand and back him on this. Unless there was one! I think Conyers is a great man and I do support him and his intelligence all the way. He knows much more than we do. So my vote is yes and I will stand behind Conyers.

In the military he was known for the element of surprise.

Even if he isn't there however, I DO believe that at least one Senator will stand up. And if one does, so will others. I truly believe...

12. doubtful.
I am sick and tired of getting my hopes up and then having them dashed.

Why do we constantly depend on someone else to save us and then moan and whine when we get disappointed?

We need to take to the streets--riot -- and take our country back! Like they did in Russia. FUCK the peaceful transition of power. This is not a democracy any more. WE NEED TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

Don't count on any on our esteemed Senators to do the job for us.

taking to the streets in this country doesn't pack the same punch it did even twenty years ago. People either don't notice or don't care. The MSM plays a role in the suppression of these events. Grassroots political movement within the infrastructure must fight to take back what is ours.

Grassroots = all of us

15. If a senator actually stands...
..which I seriously doubt will occur (infact I've bet against it), I am thinking perhaps it would be Robert Bryd.

I really don't believe Senator Bryd gives much of a damn about what people think of him or about future political considerations. The guy speaks his mind for good or ill, does what he thinks is right, and has no problem railing against popular positions and conventional wisdom.

I don't know a lot about which Senators people are betting on, but if I had to pick one it would be Byrd. Saying that, I could be way, way off base.

Still though, I've never believed any Senator will contest because I believe the evidence of this voting fraud conspiracy is simply way too thin.

16. Possibly Frank Lautenberg could do this.
He has already said he will sit in for one term after standing in for the party in New Jersey.

He will retire for good from the Senate and would be a good candidate to help out here.

He's an imposing figure, well-spoken, deep-voiced, and not given to much silliness. In other words, senatorial and historic.

Go, Frank.

41. I have high hopes for Lautenberg
He has the guts and nothing to lose. If you remember he stood of the floor of the senate with a poster of a chicken hawk!
Additionally he already made his fortune before becoming a senator so the Repubs would not be able to go after him privately.
He's my senator & I've called his office & emailed him asking him to stand in opposition, I would suggest that everyone else call him and let him know just how important this is to all of us.
His office number is (202) 224-3224.

45. Hi, Woodstock Liberal.
Thanks for your reply on Frank Lautenberg.

I've been a fan of his for a long time -- since the night he defeated Milicent Fenwick (sp?) for the U.S. Senate seat.

I wish there were more Democrats like him running around.

I have contacted his office and I hope he will be our guy.

Also I asked him to please consider opposing the nomination of Alberto Gonzales, owing to the so-called "torture" memoranda.

Nice to meet you on DU.

19. Fully Half The Senate Falls Into The ABB Category

ABB = Anybody But Bush

You're crazy to think that no Senators will step up to the plate. All of the Democrats as well as several moderate Republicans are scared to death and sick to death of the Rove machine. It only takes one! Besides, plenty of them know that they need the black vote in the future if they stand any chance of reelection. If they don't pick up the mantle here, they can forget black support in 2006.

What makes anybody think * and sleaze won't pull this crap again in 2006 if they get away with it this time. Democrats better stop sitting there with their thumbs up their butts and do something. What makes them think * co won't pull this crap in a blue state. He almost did in in Pa and he did do it in Southern NJ. Ten points gain in 2004 compared to 2000 my fanny. He padded the votes in the blue and red states to give him his popular vote, electoral vote and so called mandate. If these Dem's think they are immune they are just as delusional as * who thinks God is on his side.

30. I definately think someone or several will stand up....
It is what Conyers said on tape.

But I don't think it will happen until the very day. It is in their best interest to keep this very close to the vest. As soon as word is out that they will stand with Conyers, the right wing attack dogs will be out for them.

If it happens (and I prey it does) then it will be a orchistrated effort for FULL effect.

Hang in there. Only a couple more days to go.

34. I agree. They're not going to tell us ahead of time, but
I believe they WILL stand up.

I mentioned on another thread that I keep getting this strong 'intuitive image' of Kerry walking through the doors of where they're meeting on Jan 6, and his jaw is so 'set'...he's SO determined. And as he comes through the door, there is such an 'energy' behind him. And while I can't see anyone behind him, I sense the 'energy' that follows him is the STRONG support he has for this. Whether he surprisingly shows up that day or not, or whether it's his STRONG support that day which I sense...I do believe my intuition is 'on mark' on this one.
Keep the faith!

31. Many! with polished speeches and media packets prepared
including a couple of Republicans who are either good Americans or don't want to go down with the S.S. Rove. Like a victim of domestic violence choosing at last not to cover for the abuser when the cops show up, they will not be cowed. Can't you just hear them rehearsing it - "There is doubt here. Those who have nothing to hide behave differently from Mr. Blackwell. Obfuscation will not be rewarded. Our country will not be bested by Ukraine. Civil rights were not a fad."
(I'm listening to a book on tape as I work tonight, and it deals with a place called Bush Falls. Hearing "Bush Falls" and imagining it as a headline probably accounts for the unguarded optimism.)

36. I'm beginning to get seriously worried
about a lot of DUers. They are in for a major disappointment. It is highly unlikely that any Senator will refuse to certify based on the current status quo. It seems the majority of folks here actually believe there will be at least one Senator who will refuse to certify. Many DUers believe that Kerry will become President. This is so removed from reality. People hanging on to this kind of illusory hope are bound to painfully crash to earth when the 6th comes and goes, and when bush gets sworn in on the 20th.

If we don't have unrealistically high hopes, how can we ever fall in to such deep despair that self-immolation on the Capitol steps seems a logical course of action? Actually, I think that pep talk is useful even for the lamest of teams.

47. Nah...
After nothing significant happens on the 6th, the goalposts will just move to inaguration day. There will be some screaming, yelling and disappointment - but then the fantasy will be something new. Perhaps a new delusion claiming that Kerry had it all planned to reveal the fraud when he returned from overseas and that Conyers held back for reasons never fully explained. Another might be that the evidence, I mean the conclusive evidence, will all come out soon and then Bush will impeached (and that this was all by design as part of Kerry's secret plan).

Some people have just created an alternate universe for themselves, and they will have to find their way back to reality on their own. There are some classic posters here who are wrong in virtually every prediction, who clearly have absolutely no grasp of where public opinion in America is or even how US elections function, yet they continue pouring out fantastically deluded posts. It's as if some people simply never, ever stop to consider how utterly, consistantly wrong they've been.

38. I just spoke to Senator Byrd's office...
asking him to contest the vote on Thursday.
(202) 224-3954
The woman to whom I spoke took my name, address, and phone number and said she would pass it on to the senator. She said that it would mean more if they heard more from West Virginians. I told her I think a lot of us in West Virginia have not heard about what's going on because of lack of MSM coverage. She did say they had heard from a number of people outside of WV.

She did not know if he would in fact contest.
