I heard a pretty good news report on KPFA tonight |
|
here in the SF Bay Area, we have the oldest lefty station in the nation -- KPFA from Berkeley, broadcasting for progressives since 1949.
Anyway, they did a pretty good news segment on seating Bush's electors about mid-way through their newshour tonight 6-7 p.m. on 1/4/05. I guess they caught up with Jesse J. on Capitol Hill today, because they interviewed him. Jesse even mentioned "how could the exit polls be correct in 47 states and incorrect in 3 pivotal states, Florida, Ohio and PA?" Then they interviewed Senator Durbin, who said something to the effect of "we wish the outcome could be different, but with over 100,000 extra votes for Bush in Ohio, there's no way he sees that long lines and irregularities could change anything."
Then, they interviewed Senator Clinton. The interviewer asked her if she was considering standing up with John Conyers on Thursday and refuse to allow Ohio's electors to be seated for Bush? She said she hadn't heard anything about that?! She said she admired John Conyers work on vote reform, but that she hadn't heard anything about a challenge. She said she would look into it.
Finally, they interviewed Senator Ted Kennedy. He said he knew about it but hadn't decided whether he would contest or not.
They mentioned Bob Lytel and Redefeatbush, who said they were counting on Barbara Boxer to be the first one to challenge the electors on Thursday, and then hopefully more Senators will follow.
The segment lasted for about 10 minutes, and it was the best news report I've heard yet on this issue.

Dear Senator Clinton:
You are probably aware by now that Rep. John Conyers, together with other members of the House of Representatives will stand up in Congress on January 6, to object to the counting of the electoral votes from the State of Ohio.
I believe that numerous and serious problems and irregularities existed in Ohio on November 2, some of which have been brought to light in the unofficial hearings of the House Judiciary committee chaired by Rep. Conyers: especially of concern are specific facts regarding the disenfranchisement of poor and African-American voters. One would have hoped that in America in the 21st century, we would have moved beyond tbe days of Jim Crow.
In my view these problems, the well-publicized exit polling discrepancies, and the apparent efforts on the part of some Ohio election officials to frustrate the recount effort by the Cobb and Badnarik campaigns provide very real cause to doubt the official tallies.
The integrity of the voting system is a serious issue, indeed it is the foundational issue, for all who care about the well being of popular rule in America.
I ask you to please consider standing with Rep. Conyers on January 6. Your support would help deliver a much needed tonic to the body politic.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely Yours,
xxxx xxxxx

8. She must not lurk in her office either |

The woman has been bombarded with FAXes and emails on the topic for some time now. So either she's lying or her staff is incredibly inept.

4. I honestly believe that Ted Kennedy did NOT say he wouldn't contest. |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 11:13 PM by FreepFryer
There has been no proof, and despite the earlier anecdotal story about his staff saying no, I doubt his staff would say so to a constituent and do so with authority. Makes no sense for the man to say anything right now.
Sound familiar?
Keep it up - Send your Senators (and House Reps!) polite requests to examine the Conyers report and use their judgment... they KNOW you have the power... they have the report in their hands...

18. I understand the challenge must be in writing and in a specific form. |
|
That precludes any senator from challenging at the last minute if the written objection has not already been prepared for submission by that particular senator.

Applause to KPFA for the good news, it should go national. People in this country need to get a shred of hope. Even if the challenge is not successful, it will send a message to G.Brish and his gestapo.

|
WTF? How could she not know? Is she not doing her job? Does she not talk to her interns? Is she lying because she doesn't want to come out and say she's not standing? Or, is she covering up the fact that she is going to stand and doesn't want to give it away? It better be the latter!

24. I love Hillary, but... |
|
... didn't she get a request from Conyers himself? And if she were just keeping a low profile, then why, "Never heard of it," rather than, "I've received letters from constituents but haven't decided whether it's Constitutionally appropriate or practical," unless she's grown accustomed to replying with flat untruths.
Ah, constituents. We're not used in political discourse, are we? When Kerry was being accused of changing positions, often a strong answer might have been, "I was then acting on behalf of the people of Mass., and now I am talking about how I would act on behalf of all Americans. Politicians are responsible for their constituencies, not their donors or personal ideologies, like my opponent the dimwitted fascist." Well, it's take some tweaking.

20. Question: Does the Senate listen to the Congress and decide? |
|
Does anyone know if this is the procedure as we saw in Fahrenheit 911? And if so, how much time will Conyers and his team have to share the evidence and facts with the Senate? Is this decided by the Speaker of the House (which would mean they will probably be given about 2 minutes?)? Is it possible therefore, that many Senators, who appear to be "in the dark" about this (one would wonder if they live in caves however)-- might hear these stories and listen to the evidence (provided they are given time on the floor) and then decide to contest- right on the spot? Might there then be opportunities to shed light on this to new Senators who might decided then that they want more information (in both parties- yes I am dreaming but I can hope, right?)?

|
Hillary is in the dark because they don't read e-mail. I applaud her in that she has the only office that has replied to me at all. By not being from NY, all I got was a form letter explaining how the volume of mail is so great that out of staters can "go fish". I deleted it! How can our politicians get this far without any kind of curiosity? Ever since 2000, the web has been crawling with info. and alot of it is good. Some :tinfoilhat: :P

25. 1,000,000 PHONE CALLS TO SENATORS - BOXER, H. CLINTON and T. KENNEDY |
|
I heard the report also, and btw it was no KPFA, but national Pacifica that did the segment, broadcast on all their stations and affiliates.
Hilary sounded wide open to the possibility of a challenge - WE MUST DELUGE HER WITH CALLS ESPECIALLY CONSTITUENTS IN NEW YORK.
Ted Kennedy also left the door wide open - LIKEWISE, DELUGE HIS OFFICE WITH CALLS.
It might not be a bad idea to call John Kerry's office as well.
Mind you activists, these are free phone calls that are pleasant and rarely take more than 90 seconds.
If we get a million calls going in - and that requires that you forward this and contact all the activists you know - then the world will indeed change on January 6th, 2005.
Contact any Senator: 1-800-839-5276 Contact any Congressperson: 1-877-762-8762
peace - but never give up the struggle -

27. Can't believe Hilary said she hadn't heard about it?! |
|
So I guess that means we should shower her with phone calls tomorrow, right folks? And Kennedy's comment was curious...since numerous threads have mentioned that his office firmly said he was NOT going to contest the vote. Wouldn't it be surprising if they all were playing "pretend" until Thursday...so as not to be threatened ahead of time by the Right.
