The Nashua Advocate: Election Challenge Recap and a Salute to Activists
We hope you'll stop by and check out our new article, a good deal of which is dedicated to all you activists out there.

The article can be found here --

http://www.nashuaadvocate.blogspot.com/

A quick note: we're honored to have been quoted on the website of the non-partisan National Research Commission on Elections and Voting, as well as on the high-traffic Democrats.com site.

We were also thrilled to learn recently that an Advocate article is footnoted in a working draft of the newest Freeman/Simon exit poll analysis.

Republican Representative Tom DeLay, currently under investigation for multiple political corruption-related felonies.

Now I understand why I hated his closing remarks!

22. REPUBLICAN = HYPOCRITE
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 09:39 AM by DUBYASCREWEDUS
I am from Cleveland and I have seen Tubbs-Jones as a lawyer, Judge and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor; as she indicated she is no fool. Go Stephanie and Go Barbara! Did anyone else notice yesterday that while all of the bobble-head Republicans were on the floor of the House and Senate reaffirming the idiot's assumption of the throne that Republican Dino Rossi was in Washington bitching and complaining of - now wait - voter fraud! Can you imagine? Not all of the votes were counted (oh, my, no, it can't be!); some voters signatures were not verified (oh, no way!); there has to be a new election!!! I have always been aware of the hypocrisy of Republicans (i.e. Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Tom Delay, etc. talking about ethics and Christianity), but yesterday their hypocrisy reached new levels. Here we have Republican U.S. Reps and Senators telling the country and the world that there was no fraud in Ohio and we should just "move on" while at the same moment in time Rossi is screaming for the very things he tried to deny to his opponent immediately after the election! I say it again: REPUBLICAN = HYPOCRITE!

23. just what I needed today.....
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:11 AM by dalloway
thank you for this great article!

I was feeling very stuck between pride at Boxer, my Senator (Lautenberg) and the others who spoke up and massive disappointment at the large numbers who didn't.

I was confused if this was the end, a tree-falling in the forest that no one would hear.

BUT NOW your article puts it into perspective and reminds me of the monumental nature of what was accomplished, including getting the vitriol and anger at justice that the Rethugs are now on record with.

Your last sentence in the article--all this in nine weeks, imagine what we can do in four years--brought me to tears.

Tears that this may indeed be the beginning and not the end.

May hope live on....

I'll continue to do my part.

29. Delay's diatribe told us what happened--I loved it
I, too, was upset yesterday that Barbara Boxer stood alone but I listened to most eveything and frankly was astounded at the republican vitriol which has caused me to think that our calm objection yesterday practically caused a confession. So thank you Nashua Advocate for brilliantly writing about this. My favorite quotes from your article:

"The Advocate thinks that the party of former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon David Duke doth protest too much...."

And in my view, Delay's astounding Nixonian I am not a crook statement:

"President Bush was a "closet computer nerd" who had a "master computer" in the White House with which he, and/or another nefarious accomplice, undid and re-calculated the actual results of the November election."

(nefarious accomplice=Karl Rove LOL)

31. So, true! And GOP scraping up Michael Moore at every opportunity...
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 11:04 AM by shuffnew
Yes, they were grasping at straws to try to coverup the GOP election fraud. They couldn't blame Clinton, so did you notice how many of them put the blame on Michael Moore! They made complete idiots out of themselves. No doubt the dems won that debate. Love you Michael Moore (you obviously helped throw the the truth in front of the GOP's faces!)

Amazing that they would even have the gall to put Tom DeLay on the stage of the debate. The criminal from hell (and even most of the GOP knows what a criminal DeLay is)! What a person to put on stage to read the dems the "right act". Amazing GOP idiots they are!

30. Thanks for sharing! More references on subject in democrats.com email...
I received the below email from activist@democrats.com that gives a list of some of the Reps that supported our efforts and some additional links regarding the debate, etc. (it also gives an 800# to call to thank those supporting our efforts, etc.). If this is a dupe, feel free to delete.

Copy of democrats.com email cut/pasted below (email 1/6/05 9:46PM):

...Visit the NEW Democrats.com blog community!....

We - the broad progressive movement - won a huge victory today in Congress.

No, we didn't win the vote to reject Ohio's Electors - but we never thought we would.

We did win the debate.
(C-Span: http://tinyurl.com/672p9 )

Our side won the debate because we talked about the fundamental basis of Democracy: the right of everyone to vote, and the right to have every vote counted.

Republicans could not challenge our facts. So they viciously attacked our motives. If you missed Tom DeLay's closing argument, you must watch it. It was pure poison - like everything Tom DeLay says and does. We're counting the days until his theft of the Texas legislature puts him behind Texas bars - where it won't be "Camp Cupcake."

But our champions did not wither under withering fire. They stood their ground. They stood tall.

What now?

First, Ohio is not over. There are two cases still in the courts. They raise crucial substantive questions that go to the heart of whether Ohio's election was fair or fraudulent. We will continue to track these cases, to make sure justice is done.

Second, Election Reform is not over. Every Democrat - and even a few Republicans - emphasized the voting problems that need to be fixed. If Republicans block action on basic reforms like paper trails, they will confront millions of very angry voters.

Third, Bush's "legitimacy" is not over. Millions of Americans know that he certainly stole Florida in 2000, and possibly stole Ohio in 2004. The dark cloud over Bush's head will not be lifted until the questions raised in the Conyers Report are answered. As long as Ken Blackwell refuses to answer those questions, Bush's second term will be as illegitimate as his first.

Finally, the pro-Democracy movement is not over. We fought for this debate against infinite odds, and we got the debate we demanded. We fought against the fear of Democratic leaders and the rage of Republican leaders, but they could not silence us or repudiate our cause. Our champions have stepped forward, and we will work with them until we guarantee every American has the right to vote.

Let's thank the Democrats who fought with us for Democracy - call 800-839-5276

The Nashua Advocate is right on the money. It was wonderful to read that article....

Don't know how I missed it... but I don't remember anything about the Lucas County Democratic Party Headquarters burglary... I mean computers with sensitive information regarding the campaign in the largest county in the most important swing state... Sounds like another Watergate to me.

but i dunno how many average neocons could actually understand the irony and sarcasm presented here!

but then, this isn't going to the average neocon, is it? this is for anybody who had any doubts at all about our election...remember, a conspiracy theory, according to the strictest definition of the words, isn't x-files stuff, it's the kind of stuff that the fbi honestly investigates, and doesn't call a "bad scifi story"...
