Which senators joined Boxer in Objecting?
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 12:13 AM by Hippo_Tron
I know that she was the ONLY senator to vote against certifying the electoral votes, but which ones objected with her and Stephanie Tubbs Jones on the House Floor during the joint session?

15. Boxer was the only Senator who voted "Yea" for the objection.
The other 10 Dem Senators who spoke on the floor voted "Nay".

Kind of like the way Kerry argued against the IWR on the Senate floor and then voted in favor of it.

Barbara's our only hope now in the Senate.

9. I'm talking about the JOINT SESSION
I didn't get a chance to see the proceedings. Here's what I remember from Farenheight 9/11. About a dozen or so members of the house stated their objection to the certification of the Florida electoral votes. Gore gaveled them down stating that they had no senator. From what I have heard, Senator Boxer stood up today and joined those protests. However, I have also heard that other senators joined the protest as well. Does this mean, that Senators Obama, Clinton, and others that I have heard stood up on the HOUSE floor and said I object, I want this to proceed to a debate in the house and senate.

11. No it was Rep. Tubbs - Jones who stood up during the official

certifying of the electoral votes, said she objected, and she had a written statement - with a senator's signature (Boxer's). Therefore, the scene in F9/11 didn't take place today, it was very quick.

Then they broke into separate sessions - the HR debated it for two hours, and the senate did as well. The ten senators stood in support of Sen. Boxer, but didn't sign the objection, because only one signature was necessary.

Edited to add: the senators didn't vote with Boxer, yet they all made some very strong statements in support of her.

6. others who stood in support
First, it's worth noting that more than one Senator took action. Barbara Boxer announced her intention to challenge the election on Thursday morning. By midday Senators Chris Dodd, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, and Barak Obama had let it be known that they would support Boxer. During the discussion in the Senate, Richard Durbin, Debbie Stabenow, Edward Kennedy, Ron Wyden, Frank Lautenberg, and Tom Harkin joined the others in speaking in support of Boxer's challenge. And in the House, numerous members spoke, one after another, until the time was up, and the number voting for the challenge jumped to 33 from the 8 that had been known early in the day.

7. The Senators that supported her efforts did it in their speeches and
here is a thread where people rated how supportive the Senators who spoke were and there may be some House member ratings at the end of the thread because the Senate ended first.

13. Senators? None
Some spoke about voter supression and a few mentioned other issues. But no one else objected. There has been a battle here all day today mostly because some people object to other people feeling let down. There is a group here who think they are entitled to tell everyone else how to feel. To highlight their inability to accept differing opinion they post a daily thread handing out awards to "drama queens". They really are the most insuferable bunch of message board bullies, terrified of any party dissent.

They would like you to believe that what happened today was some great step forward. It wasn't but it was a small start. I am glad some senators spoke out. I wish they had also voted with Boxer. I am proud of the congress-members who voted with Tubbs-Jones. As usual the congress makes the senate look silly.

Congratulations Senator Boxer and everyone who participated in any way. Most particular congratulations to those who had the intestinal fortitude to vote not to accept the electors from Ohio. You who chose to stand up with your vote have taken a step for democracy and really nothing more than we should have expected from each of you.
