5. I just emailed Rep. Markey.
He only take email from his constituents.

I told him that his vote is the reason I have decided to stay a Democrat and not switch to unenrolled.

I also told him that this was the # 1 issue for me.

8. Most of the email forms will only take comments from constituents.
That's why I compiled a snail mail and phone number contact list, for those of us who would like to thank them but are not in their districts.

Thanks, everyone!

9. Of the Senators who didn't stand, do you know why?
Do you have any info readily available on this to save me the time of researching?? Kerry was absent, were others? Has there been anything in the press (or any rumors) about why others in attendance didn't speak in support??

I tried finding info in newspapers, but not much on it (New York Times article was an abomination -- totally slanted and dismissive -- just fired off an angry letter to the editor, for what goo that will do..)

Here is the letter I sent (revised from the one I sent to the LA Times yesterday):

Dear Editor:

I am writing to say how proud I am of Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and all of the other true patriots who stood up for the integrity of our elections on January 6, 2004.

Unlike most people in this country, I have not taken my eyes off Ohio since November 2, and I am absolutely appalled at what I have seen going on there. There are many "smoking guns" pointing to serious election irregularities and, after what happened in Florida in 2000, I don't think we have the luxury of ignoring these warning signals that our democracy is under attack.

If it were not for the courage of those who stood up to contest the electoral votes from Ohio on January 6, I doubt I would ever bother to vote again. What would be the point when the only election reform we have seen since the debacle in Florida is the tragic Help America Vote Act?

I am distressed to learn that despite a huge effort on the part of our representatives in the Democratic Party, they couldn’t even get the Republican controlled Senate to discuss the need for paper-trails on our voting equipment! Isn’t it interesting that the Democrats want paper-trails, and the Republicans don’t? For me, that tells the whole story.

I listened to most of the discussion in the Senate and in the House of Representatives on January 6, and it was shocking to hear how callous the Republicans were about the massive disenfranchisement that occurred during this presidential election. It is all in John Conyers report, why don’t they read it? Instead, some of them were resting their authority on biased OpEds in right-leaning Ohio newspapers! What kind of leadership is that? They insisted trying to frame the debate as “sour grapes” or “sore losers” or “get over it, Bush Won.” This is not about winning or losing, it's about protecting the very foundations of our democracy.

This democracy rests on a verifiable vote count, and I can't thank Senator Boxer, Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and all of the others who are fighting for the integrity of our elections enough for being true representatives of the people.

Sincerely yours,

:grr: :bounce: :kick:
