The Elephant in the Livingroom of our Country |
|
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-families8jan08.storyThis is a good article in this morning's LA Times. I'm posting the link here because I think it has some really good talking points and sound bites for us to use when the RW noise machine revs up with their's.

I do believe this is the wrong link...the story is about the new indictment in the "Mississippi Burning" case.

Thursday watching the Repugs trying once again to dismiss the Democrats who were defending the right of all citizens to vote, that I believe this article correlates more than we realize. Those guys who were killed in the Mississippi burning in 1964 went there to register black citizens to vote. And, here we are today, in 2005, and they're still trying to suppres the black vote. I think it is relevant.
"Racism is the elephant in the living room of this country," said Rita Bender, 62. "And we pretend it does not exist. Until we acknowledge it, until we acknowledge the past, we are not moving forward."
