This is a work in progress, and we want your input, we need your critiques so don't hesitate to contact us. I believe Ive written everyone who has emailed or PM'd me because even if your idea has already been discussed or you feel its nitpicky or whatever, we really appreciate the fact that you care enough to give us you thoughts!

15. Well I understand their campaign have great empathy for them
and the fact they were there first...But I dont think we can or should change the orange ribbon thing now. Even the repubs out in WA are useing it for their recount. Also considering how many different orgs and groups are useing it, it might be a wasted effort.

Im actually thinking that WA and the orange ribbon is going to let us develop some allies from defectors who cross the aisle because of this. There are some righties out there smart enough to know that we could wind up stealing it back through illegal means if they could. Also there are plenty of 'em that draw the line at the vote. The vote is the ideal representation of all that democracy is and claims it can be.

I think also that every one of the 7 colors of the spectrum is designated as being official for some cause or another! lol... maybe indigo is still available! hehe

Oh and i just remembered, I saw an Irish DUer talk about the Orangemen of Ulster or something??? Sounded like orange has bad type feelings for them.

I guess we just gotta take the color we have and run with it.

Thanks for bringing that up though! Its the first time Ive seen it.

17. whats awesome is what they are running to!
there is only one outcome for this and all who truly believe in democracy will eventually have to acquiesce to free and transparent elections. If you don't, you are discriminating in favor of your own agenda... and that just makes you an asshole and depending on your level of power, evil.

19. deep night/morning update...
Looks like you guys have seen the updates already...! What I want to do is also include a link to each senator and House members statement on the 6th. I'll do this last, but I wanted to know what you guys think of that.

Also, wherever you see the Latin, I'll need text to replace it. I don't want to stamp this site too much with my own thoughts, LOL, so if you guys could come up with a consensus about how you want to word the text on the Orange Ribbon and Mission Statement page?

What is our mission statement?

Also... can anyone chronicle how the orange ribbon came about? And who created the beautiful orange ribbon logo? I LOVE it, and I first saw it on whiterosesociety.com. I asked benburch if I could put it in my sigline about a month ago, and he said yes, no problem, but this goes a little further (I never had the time to change the sigline). I'll ask him about it and send him the link.

That's all for now, catch you all tomorrow... :hi:

20. Hi Chili! It's looking wonderful! The orange ribbon was used
by the people in the Ukraine to protest their stolen election, and my head is a blur as to who first thought of using it here in the states to denounce our own election fraud.

A link to the statements is an excellent idea!

24. I found why orange in the Ukraine. :) Will look who picked it up here! :)
http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?ID=34571

Ukraine's opposition: Why orange?
AFP: 12/1/2004
KIEV, Dec 1 (AFP) - They wear orange clothes, wave orange banners, tie orange ribbons and even use orange tape to demarcate boundaries for protest meetings.

All agree Ukraine's opposition supporters are a colorful crowd, but many wonder: Why orange?

"Red -- the color of the communist revolution -- seemed too aggressive. But orange sets a tone for peaceful and constructive change," said Natalia Kukhtina, a psychotherapist involved in the Ukrainian opposition movement.

The choice of orange as the color to symbolize the movement led by Viktor Yushchenko was in fact a conscious decisiong dating back to 2002 when his liberal movement Our Ukraine used eye-catching orange to decorate legislative election campaign posters.

Two years later, there was little question which color would be used to flavor Yushchenko's presidential campaign.

"We bought material and made ribbons," said Maxim Savanevski, one of the architects of the campaign's public relations drive. "We tied them to subway cars and distributed them among friends a week before the first round of voting on October 31."

Opposition supporters say their color is a "warm" alternative to the blue-and-white used by Yushchenko's rival, Viktor Yanukovich, because white can hardly even be seen in the snow-covered landscape and blue is a "cold" color.

The proliferation of all things orange among Yushchenko supporters however has set teeth on edge among Yanukovich's backers.

Indeed Yanukovich's wife, Lyudmila, spoke to a rally in the eastern city of Donetsk earlier this week and described the opposition movement as a US-driven "orange orgy."

continued at above link. :)

As far as orange in the US I guess its one of those things that many people sorta came to the conclusion of at about the same time, for obvious reasons.

29. lol! Personally, I normally have a problem with mission statements,
they seem so corporate to me, so I avoid reading them. I'll think on it though, and learn to see how they are written in between work.

As to the orange here, I believe the first place I heard of it was on Air America's Majority Report and there were discussions about it here on DU. I went out and bought some length of orange ribbon and attached it to the spoiler of my car. It looked like a warning flag that people put on the back of their cars when carrying lumber, and I don't think anyone "got it". A heavy downpour last week swept it away. I guess I didn't tie it tight enough. ;(

32. Why The Orange Ribbon
What do you all think of this?... edit at will! Please help with the grammar especially!

In 2002 Victor Yushchenkos liberal movement "Our Ukraine" adopted the color orange to symbolize their democratic ideals. Orange was later chosen as the symbolic color of his presidential campaign. Victor Yushchenko was later poisoned just before his country's election.

During Ukraine's presidential elections on November 21st 2004 there was widespread fraud and disenfranchisement. The people of Ukraine rose up in a sea of orange and began a campaign of civil disobedience, in order to force a re-vote. Media the world over took an incredible interest in the process, and their was little doubt that most of the world supported the re-vote.

On December 26th Ukraine's people cast their ballots once again and elected Victor Yushchenko and his liberal platform to the office of President. Victor Yushchenko has since faced delays and challenges from his opponent over this second election. We believe that Mr. Yushchenko is indeed the lawful President of Ukraine.

Thankyoupatriot.com applauds the incredible will and determination of President Victor Yushcenko and his supporters. We take inspiration from them and stand in utmost admiration of their accomplishments. We use the color orange in honor and with respect to their struggle.

53. I hate to be vague, but I honestly think we're getting pretty close
to launch. Im very concerned about momentum as well, but I think if we do it in a few predetermined steps we'll get a much better initial "splash" effect. That is rather than rolling out a half finished site.
I want people to be proud to link to us... not wanting them to be wishing we'd hurry up and finish it.

Basically the day or two before offical launch Im going to PM everyone who showed interest, to let them know to send pics if they havent. I will ask them for thread support in several different forums if the Admin will let me.

Ive been wanting to show one of these threads to Admin for the last week but its just been a hellacious 7 days for them. Im hoping they will be keen on this project and lend us their support and maybe even post thank you pics as well... If any moda are reading this could you maybe test the waters for us or float this thread or something, pretty please???

After the pre launch thing for all of DU, I intend on tracking down and PMing or emailing every blogger/news type person in here and plead for links and if they could find it in their hearts to give us a blurb if they felt theyd like to. I will do this in conjunction with the launch.

Just after launch I'm really hoping that a bunch of the DUers who post regularly on other sites will post the link to thankyoupatriot and put out as much info as they feel like giving on the background of the site, the power of grassroots and the power of the people and how that is what played a large part in what happened on January 6th. I will be PMing some of you who have expressed interest in doing this kind of thing, right after I get done begging bloggers.! lol!

I will also remind all those I PM that part of what we are doing here is reclaiming the word patriot and thus also reclaiming liberal, progressive and democrat. Im so tired of being anti-American, just because I want my country to live up to the ideals that it so proudly proclaims!

So now anyone who has read this far I sincerely invite you to come at me with suggestions and ideas and criticisms in regards to what I said above. I desperately need your involvement and if you read this far, you are the kind of person I want to hear from!

I have told a few others to send pics, and they did, but I haven't gotten around to it myself yet--all the digital cameras are busy documenting flood evidence here. I'll send something in soon. :hi:

Oh, and I thought it might be good later, when the site is up, if new pics were added at the top--that way there is always something new to see right away, which seems to be important for websites.

63. did a lot tonight...
Check out the Honorable mention page, many of the Rep's statements are up, still have a few left (my God... they're wordy :loveya: - even worse than I am) - next I'll do the Senators. The Hall of Fame page will be a snap.

The only big thing left is the links. I have a few so far, but I know a lot of people want to link many protest sites...

Just checkin' in...

:hi"
