Kennedy: We cannot move our party or our nation forward under pale colors
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 05:11 PM by understandinglife
``We cannot become Republican clones. If we do, we will lose again, and deserve to lose.''

Clear enough, everyone?

3. thank you Senator Kennedy
I'm so sick of hearing calls to move to the "center" (which has been defined further and further right over the past 30 years). What the hell is the point of being a Democrat if you don't support our basic values.

9. go away. I am always amazed that people would say that when
its clear he could have done nothing with his life like the little dicktator. Instead, he's spent his entire life taking care of people and this country. Unless you can put specifics on the table, just go away.

7. Kennedy seems to have come alive again!
He's starting to show a little gumption since January 6, 2005. This is yet another example of what grassroots campaigns can accomplish! The ball is rolling.

12. Somehow, I think Kennedy did a better job saying what he did,...
..than the reporter did in showing his/her personal bias.

If this is an example of AP reporting, then journalism is dead.

(comments like "he got his digs in at John Kerry," etc.)

will not be a clone in the land of the free in the home of the brave!

i will be what I want to be and I choose not to be one of those who insist on pushing their morals onto others.LIke I am immoral.HA

The next step for the repukes is ethnic cleansing, they do not like what we are about.About making our own choices about ourselves and our religion. Why do they think that their religion should be practiced in schools, how can they discount the variety of religions that we now have in our country,we are the melting pot after all.
Telling other people what to do with their bodies and marriages I feel is not my position to judge.

One more thing,I am not a religious sort ,but why is it that in the bible they say "lest not jugde ,lest we be judged" or something to that effect, but the right wing extremeist are the ones judging more than any one?

17. We have to be able to push forward our ideas
with the same vigor as the Rightwingers do.

And we need the Progressive version of Fox News and at LEAST as much visibility with our commentators as the rightwingers have with theirs.

Our ability to push forward our ideas to the American people is seriously killing us right now.

18. He just remarked how within just a few days after B*sh entered office in
2004, the papers with the plans on an Iraqi invasion were literally laid out on a table....B*sh was surrounded by Rumsfeld, Cheney and the other criminals, and they were trying to figure out how to invade Iraq...ASAP.
Kennedy remarked how the advisors (Kaye, etc.) were trying to emphasize that there was not a viable reason to invade, but B*SH dismissed any suggestions on their part.
This was just on an interview with Chris Matthews ...MSNBC.
It will be repeated again later toninght, as well as the interview Matthews just had w/Wesley Clarke.

19. Yeah, but we will lose again anyway if they don't fix e-voting! Does he
get that yet? How many of them still don't get that? If they are talking about moving to the center or not moving to the center they still are not addressing that WE WON and they stole it and if we don't fix it they will continue to steal elections.

20. Kennedy is spot on...
I'm so glad that Kennedy "gets it."

There is nothing wrong with the ideals and policies of the Democratic party.

The problem is that the Republicans are masters at positioning themselves on the winning side of any issue. Look how they handled Bush's lack of military service. They defined Kerry--a decorated, courageous war hero--as a traitor who didn't deserve his medals. Reps call monetary gifts to millionaires "tax relief". Upcoming cuts in social security are couched as a beautiful act of courage--designed to "save social security." The list of manipulations goes on.

While Republicans are engaging in guerrilla marketing, the Dems seem to sit on the sidelines. We have to speak out and become part of the dialog again. We have to start defining tax cuts for millionaires as sickening and a war based on lies as illegal and revolting. The Dems seem sheepish about wanting to stand up and speak the truth.

We must start aggressively defining ourselves and our policies--instead of allowing the Reps to define us.

After they've successfully put us on the defensive of an issue--we've all ready lost the court of public opinion.
