Today in church, the minister claimed Bush had won and we should unite
And she voted for Kerry. We really need to get out the word. I don't want to hear another misguided minister or leader falsely saying that the people have spoken or that Bush has won. Kerry won and the people were cheated - as we now know. We will NEVER unite behind that fascist, murdering thief.

4. Isn't what illegal?
speaking about politics from the pulpit? I think so. Calling the IRS if they do it? I don't have a clue.

9. Churches get tax breaks...
only if they avoid becoming a political organization. At least that's my understanding of it.

10. It is all so fuzzy to me, but then again that is how the Bush's like it.
I think my in-laws southern baptist church DID become a political organization this year. They registered people to vote, took people to vote and through their message endorsed a candidate.

I am a Catholic and our MSGR. came very close to crossing the line in 2 of his homilies. He kept stressing, "vote pro-life" without giving a name. I just said, "yes, I am voting for all of those lives in Iraq so I am good".

"I don't want to hear another misguided minister or leader falsely saying that the people have spoken or that Bush has won"

I don't want to hear about another church leader discussing politics in the pulpit!!!!!!! Time to take away tax-exempt status! This is BULLSHIT!

6. Give her a copy of this.
"Reducing the program of petty-bourgeois illusions to a naked bureaucratic masquerade, National Socialism raises itself over the nation as the worst form of imperialism. Absolutely vain are hopes that Hitler's government will fail today or tomorrow, a victim of its internal inconsistency. The Nazis required the program in order to assume power; but power serves Hitler not at all for the purpose of fulfilling the program. His tasks are assigned him by monopoly capital. The compulsory concentration of all forces and resources of the people in the interests of imperialism -- the true historic mission of the fascist dictatorship -- means preparation for war; and this task, in its turn, brooks no internal resistance and leads to a further mechanical concentration of power. Fascism cannot be reformed or retired from service. It can only be overthrown. The political orbit of the regime leans upon the alternative, war or revolution.
Leon Trotsky ("What is National Socialism?", June 10, 1933)

11. MInisters should get their facts straight
They should never misuse their position to try to convince people to support Bush. Do they have a C. O. program at that church?

14. How appalling
That is why I go pray at the little chapel off to the side of the church during the week so I don't have to hear someone abusing their power telling me what I should do politically. What is even more appalling is the people who believe everything the church tells them.

15. Your minister did nothing wrong because...
she (?) was advocating healing, after the fact, not telling people who to vote for, before the election, from the pulpit or as an official function of the church,

today at our UU church, the minister suggested we do what we can, based on our own beliefs, to see that the election was clean, and then move on to prepare for another election down the road. Now we all know who our minister supports, and most of the congregation supported, so we
could fill in the blanks for ourselves. the minister was very careful not to mention names.

17. Questions of fraud aside, what about the concept of Loyal Opposition?
People who consider ourselves good Americans who still oppose about 90% of the policies of the powers that be.

Should all Democratic senators & representatives always vote with the Republicans now? Or should they do what they can, although in the minority? Shouldn't they obstruct, filibuster, & try to work deals with the few Republicans retaining any sense?

Should we not express our opinions, write letters to editors, protest if that's our thing & plan for the next time?

Oh, and those questions of fraud were just put aside temporarily. We need to continue to look for answers.

19. You should really consider leaving that church.
Any minister who speaks of politics on the pulpit has no business doing so.

I would find another church. One that actually fears God.
