American Dad/CIAer Stan Smith: "Rigging elections is my bread and butter."
Don't know if anyone saw this, or it was posted here last night -- scanned & didn't spot it -- but the sneak peak episode of American Dad had this quote in it. He was rigging a school election for his son. There also was a hysterical scene with him creeping around at night with a gun after hearing a noise in his house at night, saying, "Osama is that you?"

Another real gem was a telephone call between Bush and God, wherein God tells Bush to keep the chats/comments to himself, followed by God breaking to talk to Cheney, answering, "Yes, sir?"

1. I saw the premiere episode and something about it is very
fishy. I can't put my finger on it, but the story line seems to read like a liberal's wet dream. In fact, too much so, know what I mean?

3. I know exactly what you mean! I laughed out loud more than a few times
Suddenly, it occurred to me that this was on the FOX NETWORK! Pretty strange! Was this our consolation prize? Who knows what those whack jobs are thinking...

The longest-running subversive cartoon ever. :hippie:

9. Yeah. There's a difference between Fox and Fox News. Remember
when Fox News was threatening to sue the Simpsons over the spots portraying it as the network of evil?

22. is there really a difference? or just a disconnect?
ultimately they all answer to the same media mogul, Murdoch or whoever.

I think when they put jokes in there about election fraud and such, it's just to rub it in our noses.

4. Who knows?
Maybe the only way to reach the brain dead 50% who actually vote for these criminals is through cartoons.

5. People believed less in government conspiracies
after the success of the X-Files then they did before.

I'm not saying it's on purpose, I'm just saying...

7. Interesting point
But the X-Files was drama not satire.

The cultural effect (if any) of American Dad will be quite different.

13. I think you've put your finger on it.
The objective is to color the concerns of the left as so crazy by satirizing those concerns. Yep, that's it I think.

23. Very interesting point....
but I think too many crazies are buying into the bullshit, which further "alienates" the conspiracy theorists. Why are Rockefellers funding (fake) UFO research? Have you seen some of the stuff floating around on the internet? It could make one think that the rapture is all about an intergalactic conspiracy.

Its their way of marginalizing us even more.
Gives more fuel to the "look at what that Liberal Entertainment Media is saying about us!" kind of folks.

15. I havent seen it but my take on all creativity is this...
if its funny as hell, cool as shit, witty, colorful, fun, thought provaking and optimistic. It was made by a truly liberal minded person.
If it looks or sounds generic and self absorbed with no real feeling involved it came from the right.

Generalizations maybe, but hey we have all of Hollywoods coolest people and they have Nashvilles worst. Brad Pitt or Toby keith who would you want to hang out with?

On the newspaper in the intro when the freeper father is singing about how it's going to be a wonderful day and "preserve the American race."

What a riot! Obviously made by liberals. I love it!

20. Haven't seen it yet but
My first thought was that perhaps wingnuts would identify with the title character and watch from that standpoint, just as many embraced Archie Bunker and laughed with him rather than at him. But then I went to the show's message board and saw this post:

"Being an American Soldier, I was totally turned off by the way you displayed our Commander in Chief and our higher Commander in Chief. It's too bad that you have to continue putting on low life, back alley shows that bring the morale and the morals of this great nation to a new low. Maybe one day your writers will get their heads out of their "fourth point of contact" and actually write a show that helps make this a better nation. Your show makes the Military, CIA, FBI, and all law enforcement look stupid, and you wonder why there is so much crime in the country. I hope this show hits rock bottom in a hurry......Totally dissapointed in staying up to see it..."

Might be a put-on. Either way, pretty funny stuff; they might want to consider hiring this guy as a writer.

An aside: does anyone else recall reading after 9/11 that co-creator Seth Macfarlane had been booked on one of the hijacked planes that day?
