3. Is Dean Pro Choice?
O ya and I read somewhere Kerry isn't Por Choice but he sided with being Pro choice in this last Election to live up to Democratic values, is this true?

8. nonetheless it's still important to sign this petition... it's important
that this issue isn't ignored in a climate that is opposed to even birth control methods that have been around for over 30 years. Shouldn't sweat it, right? Oh, wait, so has Roe v. Wade. Nothing could happen to that, could it?

This needs to be framed as Reproductive Rights, which includes reproductive freedom and reproductive choice.

Reproductive freedom means that Pharmacists have no right to deny a woman a prescription from her doctor. If they do not believe in any prescription, for whatever reason, they should pass it to another pharmacist, not usurp a doctor's written medical order. There are groups of pharmacists out there now who are denying women (married or not) access to birth control pills. Besides the privacy issue being violated, this also interferes with a Doctor’s medical order (birth control pills are used for things other than preventing pregnancy, such as for ovarian cysts, and hormonal regulation).

Couldn't happen? It already is. There is a group of pharmacists who have actively come out "against" the pill, and are denying women prescriptions that their doctors have given http://www.prevention.com/article/0,5778,s1-1-93-35-4130-1,00.html

I'm not talking about the "morning after pill" -- I'm talking the normal run-of-the-mill birth control pills.

We can't just let this issue fall to the wayside, and we have to make sure that the people who represent us understand all the facets of this issue.

A few more things to consider...

in Wisconsin a bill has been proposed that would have a woman report a miscarriage to the police within 12 hours... http://www.wisdems.org/WLN/Mar_Update.htm

and yes morning after pills, too have been targeted:
article on emergency contraception often denied (though -- I have to wonder why the authorities were not brought into the picture since in the first example the woman was raped) http://www.wworld.org/crisis/crisis.asp?ID=455

10. if they turn it in, is it useless? I guess I feel that if it is turned in
then someone will read the comments, and pass them on.

12. i have my doubts about those petitions.
i think they have about as much credibility as online polls. i doubt anyone takes them seriously, especially when they are about something that is already over.

17. Thanks for pointing out some problems,
I thought it was important to make our voices heard, and these petitions give us opportunity to do so in big numbers.
Make "them" aware of our vigilance and determination to see the world set to rights.
I'm not sure how we can remain 'freep'proof-anyway.
Thanks for your input.
