Newsweek's George Will needs smackdown for editorial on Count Every Vote l
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7102435/site/newsweek/

pullquote

Do liberals who oppose state laws denying felons the right to vote also oppose laws denying felons the right to own guns?

snip

Under the stopped-clock principle—even a stopped clock is right twice a day—let the record show that Sens. Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton and Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Democrats from California, New York and Ohio, respectively, have a tenuous hold on a piece of a point in their election-reform bill that is, however, generally dreadful and, in parts, patently unconstitutional.

The Count Every Vote Act, which might better be called the What's a Little Fraud Among Friends? Act, reflects monomania—the idea that anything that increases the number of ballots cast is wonderful. So the act would make Election Day a federal holiday—and would require states to have Election Day registration, which is an invitation to fraud.

end of snip

This op-ed is is just so full of smug bullshit and liberal vilification I can't even see straight. The comparison between allowing felons the right to vote to the right to bear arms has got to be the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard.

He suggests that the proposed bill is a calculated move by Clinton/Boxer/Tubbs to increase democratic votes because most felons would likely vote that way. Then he goes on to say that the better "conservative" argument for allowing felons to vote has more to do with involving felons in the community and there is something wrong with criminal penalties that don't end. He doesn't say what grand poobah conservatives have argued this, just that it's a good idea and a conservative one. Refers to the contesting the election by Boxer and Tubbs as a collaboration "in delaying for two hours the certification of George W. Bush's Ohio electoral votes to protest alleged Election Day voting problems in that state."

Later he cries crocodile tears over Clinton who "....seems to be in the chrysalis stage, about to flutter forth as a butterfly of gorgeous moderation. Association with this legislation cannot be helpful. ...she has distanced herself from her party's chairman and OTHER CRAZIES regarding Iraq." (The ALL CAPS are mine.)

I say, Fuck you George Will and the stinking carcass of the conservative nag you rode in on.

Whadayasay people? Shall we give this guy a little reality check?

Let's set this asshole and the editors that printed this tripe straight.

7. Yeah, that was me. I don't think it was ever printed though.
Hopefully, they felt a twang of shame though.

Thing is, I haven't stayed all that current with the different bills out there. Do you know of a good resource to find out the specifics of the Let Every Vote Count bill?

In the meantime, I'll give Boxer's site a try.

Thanks

Everybody should know about this attempted characterization of people who are trying to do the right thing.

3. George Will is a festering pus-wound on the ass of Newsweek
They should see about getting that removed; it might get infected and kill the surrounding tissue.

5. Felons' right to *count* votes?
Do liberals who oppose state laws denying felons the right to vote also oppose laws denying felons the right to own guns?

What does Will say about felons' right to count the votes? Or to secretly program the computers that secretly count the votes?

8. I sent a letter back.. heres what I wrote!

The evidence of the truth that Kerry won this election is statistical because ruthless undemocratic people decided that they wanted bush to win more than they wanted fair elections. The elctronic voting fraud is SO obvious that the only people that dont believe it are those that havent seen it. The notion that everyone that can vote, should, seems to be bushes cry around the world.. to vote in other countries is ok because bush is demonstrating to these nations that holding elections doesnt mean that the people will be heard (I hope you know Saddam had elections too).. all you have to do control the counting. The notion that we should trust Diebold and ES&S to fairly count the vote is laughable, with public statements that clearly indicate there intention to make sure bush won. The list goes on and on, but I suspect you dont want to hear these facts, I suppose you havent even seen the breakdown of voting based on machine types, or the lockdown in Ohio Warren county late on election night as bushes lead shrunk.. as it should, as inner city counting continued late into the night.... If you have seen all this evidence, why do you believe that fraud needs an invitation.. fraud is at the party and has taken over! Twice now we have inaugurated the wrong man, and I have seen more proof of that than of the opposite. Why do you hate democracy so much? I dont want ANY fraud, we manage to move millions of dollars in the banking system everyday with almost no errors, so I do not accept that we cant have the same standards for election (Diebold makes ATM mostly, or didnt you know that?) .. but since bush is in the minority (see the part in which Kerry won, i.e. dems are the majority of people) you dont want everyone to vote, and thats exactly what republican election officals do.(K. Harris, K. Blackwell.. ect)
tell me this, would you rather set a guilty man free, or kill an innocent one?
