Senate votes to drill. Does anyone care?
I'm rather upset right now. Bushfuck just got his way and no one here
responded to my post yesterday except for a freeper. This vote
is the first signal that the Senate is going to go with asshole
from now on.

2. Yes. But does it do any good to care about anything anymore?
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 07:23 PM by cornermouse
The takeover appears to be complete. Bush has made it clear that the corruption is from top all the way down to bottom and it may be irreversible. Our Senators and Representatives do NOT represent us any more. They're too busy making their lobbyists and corporate donors happy to even remember our existence.

3. Kerry, Cantwell, the NRDC and others fought this
As I did. More people need to get involved and stop
waiting for politicians to do it. We need to step in
and prevent anymore damage.

4. This pissed me off more than the war and the election.
I heard about it on my drive home tonight and nearly flipped. It really angers me and I hope this adminstration suffers for it bigtime.

5. I care-- and I'm sickened by this vote.
We need to keep pushing on many fronts-- but especially on election fraud and election reform. I'm still hoping against hope that either the Clint Curtis story will explode or new whistleblowers will come
forward. I'm really going to visualize b*shco going down tonight.

6. I can't decide...
I want either to :grr: or
But with ANWR drilling, and Mt. Kilmanjarro losing it's snow-cap, I'm still too :wow: to decide.

7. It's a horrible development, but not a topic for this forum...
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 10:49 PM by FreepFryer
...You probably should try 'current events' or 'politics', where you will get a response from a group better suited for your '2004 Election Results'-unrelated topic.

And imho, it's not relevant here just because some of these Repukes were voted into office in 2004... by that rationale this forum would be clogged with Senate and House issues, and I would claw my face off in signal-to-noise despair.

15. By your own definition it is LBN and has nothing to do with this forum.
I believe the purpose of having different forums is so people can find news about certain subjects in certain places.

I spent a good part of yesterday faxing every single Senator, Republican and Democrat, who were considered "on the fence."

There are efforts afoot to stop the house from approving the full budget, voting against the ANWR drilling provision!

WORK ON THIS. Here's one link:

20. So this is the bill that they slipped into the budget bill
so that no filibuster would be allowed?

I haven't been paying attention but heard that tidbit today. I guess the repukes haven't done away with the filibuster yet.

I'm clicking on your link Carolab and sending the emails.

11. Congress discussion is ridiculous. They don't have a clue.
World demand for fossil energy is increasing hugely due to not only the huge use of U.S.(biggest energy user) but also the increased demand in China and India, each with over 1 billion who have asperations for more roads, more cars, more appliances, etc. Fossil fuel use is creating huge problems at exponential rate- resulting in global warming, global mercury pollution, other pollution, melting glaciers and ice caps, rising sea level, melting antarctic ice shelves, contaminated food chain(mercury, dioxin, etc.), etc.
Those who think that we can increase energy use like the Oil& Gas Industry/Bush Admin./etc. do are wrong. We are on the verge of major climate change already, with slowing of the Atlantic Gulf stream(major effects on northern hemispehre climate), thinning ozone layer, incrased hurricanes, desertification, bigger storms, more insurence losses, etc.
The world can't survive with a healthy environment and conditions the unlimited pursuit of ever increasing fossil fuel use. It just isn't feasible.

16. We need to take seriously the levels of despair
When I saw that few people were responding to your post, I suspected it was because people are despairing of getting anything to go our way in Congress. It's not that people don't care, they're just sunk in hopelessness. Who among us doesn't struggle with that?

This is terrible, horrible news. I was imagining today ways to bring the issue to public attention. One thought was that those of us who drive get stuffed polar bears and drag them behind our cars. Another version of this same train of thought would be a widely circulated graphic showing a gas pump pumping polar bears and caribou into a gas tank.

I also think it's likely that there will be massive civil disobedience and that the NeoCons will take advantage of the isolated geography to massacre protesters. I'm really scared about this. I'd encourage people to do the civil disobedience in DC, not Alaska, for this reason.

18. how about
when they start screwing into the earth up there, we all drive up there with our video cameras and put it on TV. If it's in a "refuge" we should be able to get pretty close. We could even set up webcams and people could watch what they're doing live. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is display the truth and let it speak for itself.

19. Sounds like a great idea
I'm thinking that people in Alaska who have been fighting this must be feeling pretty unsupported by those of us down here. (Any DUers in Alaska?)

There are many of us in the Coalition of the Unwilling, and drilling in the ANWR is must be another thing we're unwilling to stand by and let happen!
