. . . drool *discreetly.*

The bib w/ the big floatie would definitely draw disapproving glances from the devout tonight, however, I fear. :scared:

4. Good evening WG! Didja see we now have FOUR chapters in the Gull Bay
story in the clubhouse that started with Botany's cheering us up with a busload of Norwegian XC skiers? Bleever wrote the 2nd chapter and I wrote the third and tansferred them to this clubhouse thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=315x2305

And then today Crispini chimed in with chapter 4 and ended it with the invitation:

Next?

Hello all you KOEB and ASTB! And welcome back Keef!!!

Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 08:37 PM by Nothing Without Hope
...inspired enough to write one yourself! Go for it!
:woohoo:

Edited to add: Botany was sweet to give us that marooned busload of Norwegian XC skiers - showing a deft hand in understanding what gifts are truly appreciated, by the way. But I think bleever was perhaps (I hope) a bit jealous and took them away again. Freepers! Ptooey! But then, with our lovely ASTB men, who needs skiers, Norwegian or otherwise? And that picnic in Chapter 4 does sound promising...

21. Love that classy B&W sign, Clark!
And I thought of you when the General absolutely demolished Perle in the hearings earlier this week - his comebacks were fantastic! As when Perle tried to compare Bush's policy in Iraq with Reagans in Eastern Europe and Clark said, 'Reagan never invaded Eastern Europe." And all the others.

AND Clark was generally supported and Perle was not, and the reporters actually conveyed some of this. This is progress, even though it's Perle who is in the power loop.

the neocons should pay attention to! I would love to have seen the whole thing, or at least heard it. Maybe it's come up on C-SPAN now, but when I checked yesterday, the only place to get audio was the hearing panel site, and that was Windows media-only. Bah!

40. It's still not on their schedule, NWH
Many Clarkies have been emailing them and calling them in an attempt to get them to run it this weekend. One Clarkie talked to someone at C-SPAN who said they weren't even sure they taped it, but a Clarkie who was actually THERE at the hearing said there was a camera there.

Dunno - they really should show this and maybe then the American people will realize that there *was* a master plan by a subersive group (the PNAC) to destabilize the Middle East. I was VERY proud of my man for pointing all that out and demanding Congress hold hearings on it.

He rocked.

And again, in case anyone doesn't know, I got the link to the hearing site from Wes Clark's site on this page: http://securingamerica.com/?q=taxonomy/term/9

(This is all old news to you Clark, but maybe someone else didn't know)

From WesPAC site:

(*If you'd like to listen to the audio from the hearing, and to read the full hearing transcript when it is published, please visit the House Armed Services Committee website: scroll down to 4-6-05 http://www.house.gov/hasc/schedules/ )

Statement of General Wesley K. Clark
House Armed Services Committee hearing
April 6, 2005
Mr. Chairman, Congressman Skelton, distinguished members of this Committee, thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today. From moment one, this Committee has been strongly supportive of the men and women in uniform, and I want to commend you for that -- and thank you for the support that so many of you gave to me during my time in the military. As a former soldier, I can’t stress enough how important these deliberations are to our armed forces and military families stationed around the world . . . (more... http://www.securingamerica.com/ )

*Clark appeared for 30 min. on C-SPAN's call-in show that morning: rtsp://video.c-span.org/15days/wj040605.rm

And finally, I saw an announcement posted that Clark was scheduled to be on HBO's "Real Time w/ Bill Mahr on APRIL 15TH (check listing for time in your area).

I called and talked to the Veterinarian who owns the business, Dr. James (he's been our primary vet for 20 years) and he said we'd worry about payment later, but that we need to get him in tomorrow for X-rays.
So, Blue has a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

39. I think the host was trying to take over credit for the investigation
wasn't really a smear. Because at the end, he related his own conversation with "Gannon" in which nothing was denied, said that there was surely more to the story and that it wasn't closed, and allowed the ex-detective to rebut Gannon's statement that he was accessible if people wanted to talk to him. In fact, he slammed the door in their face.

So, strange but not actually a real smear in my opinion. That's what I was afraid it would be, and at times it looked like it was going that way, but it ended up on a supportive note. I think the host - in his hamhanded, meatball way - was trying to say that REAL investigative news out to come from the networks, but he wasn't saying that this story from "the blogs" was false or that Andy was a nut.

56. Well at the beginning he
seemed to be belittling it and truthfully if Andy hadn't been on I would have turned it off before the first commercial because Dietle (spell) hurt my ears and is one of those loud mouth interrupters. Now by the end he wasn't so bad info wise but thinking that is only because of the detective then the JG phone call. I refuse to listen to argumentative sounding people...if I want to argue I'll pick a fight with the hub so I can win.

65. Yes, like you I would have turned it off if not for Andy
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 07:52 PM by Nothing Without Hope
But, compared to expectations and the past interactions of TV with blogs, it was much better than it could have been. The message overall is that the detective as well as the blogger turned up something important and that the story is far from over. He said he read it and it sounded crazy, but there does seem to be something there and its "going to be looked into." So he didn't exactly treat Andy WELL, but he didn't ridicule him either. And Andy did well.

Note that he called Andy an "online investigator" not something like a "liberal blogger." I thought that was telling. The phraseology gives Andy some respect.

astounded that MSNBC did the story!

Usually, the only person who does any story with any investigation or challenge is Keith.

103. I was astounded too, because this is a story that is either a total
government-blowing blockbuster or a red herring. If the latter, it's a red HOT herring that will damage anyone associated with it. I am blown away that this was not a setup to say again: look what fools these bloggers are. The host (who was overbearing and seemed rather ignorant) did get some hits in on how "anyone can write anything on the internet," but he didn't take it much further than that. He called Andy an "online investigator" and didn't seem to be trying to make him look like a fool. he also very clearly stated that the story remained open and more investigation was needed at the end.

So unless this is a TWO PART internet put-down and they intend to bring in the smear campaign next time, it isn't at all what I would have expected.

Like I said, I am totally shocked that they are touching this story AT ALL. I can't imagine what is going on behind the scenes.

I do think that on his "days off" Keith is sometimes working on his own investigations, even if it's just reading through what staff and internet tips give him and trying a few relatively easy leads. If he takes this one on, he'd best be careful and well-prepared.

146. Hi WP!
What a week for news, huh? Not to mention being rough on the local level for so many KOEBers.

How are you doing? Teachers here are doing a job action where they only work the hours they're paid for. No prep, no cleanup, no grading of homework, trying to get the parents to pay attention to how they're getting shafted.

Shoot, I wanted to say something happy. I'll think of something, and be back.

176. Well, it's not precisely happy but it IS very impressive as a job action
They can't just toss them all out like they did the air flight controllers, and they aren't actually going on strike. They are simply making it clear that they should be paid for what they do. Everyone knows teachers work long hours outside the classroom, and now they're making that unignorable.

Of course the GOPs are going to start spouting about summer vacations, but their salaries are so low, they could take off HALF A YEAR and not be adequately paid for the half they worked.

Sometimes they show it on A&E. They give you and hour and 200 pounds, and you go and buy stuff at a flea market and sell it at auction. Whoever makes the most profit wins and gets to keep the profit. Usually it's negligible, but it's the thrill of the hunt. :) I think you'd like it if you've never seen it. And you get to roll in the wackiness of the Brits. :loveya:

Someone got that pic of groovy Grovvy handy?

117. Hi Horse, crispini just said you're a media activist
I'd like to know if that includes being receptive to occasional tips about stories from people who really think they need to be pushed. For example, the one about how Sen. Cornyn is lying about the legal positions of all three experts whose opinions he cites to support the idea that Senate filibuster is unconsitutional. He misrepresented them and in at least one case, he is continuing to do so despite memos from the professor telling him to stop, that her position is diametrically opposed.

Wouldn't this be good ammunition on the Senate floor during the nucear debate? If you want to hear more about this, PM me and I'll send you links. You may already know about it because it was front page on Kos, posted by Kos himself, a couple of days ago and also made Greatest page here at DU. But the media are NOT PICKING IT UP!!! And the senators may not all know about it. The professors need to be interviewed to confirm that their reported statements and memos are accurate, and then BLAM!

Well, welcome to KOEB in any case, whether you want to hear more about Cornyn or not!
:hi:

is that he did present it as the FINAL CHAPTER - as in the very last scene. And it was a VIKING FUNERAL (wonder if those Norwegians showed up?).

Rumor has it that JK Rowling has already written the last chapter of the last book in the Harry Potter series. Just think of it as "artistic license" (although most authors wouldn't dream of giving away the ending!).

And what a blessing it must be for troubled people to be able to come to you and know you don't have a cold, closed mind about intimacy problems. 134. More Beauty in a world full of ugliness

Picture of Bride's Veil Waterfall, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

Isn't this just so beautiful and peaceful. I've been to Scotland, but didn't have the pleasure of visiting the Isle of Skye. If I'm ever in position again I must go there. Breathtaking.

I'd decided to once the season began. It may have been my original avatar, if not the Redskins. I don't remember.

Dontrelle was great, and made it through all nine innings in addition to hitting really well. I have a Saturday ticket package. Just love 'em. They've got heart!

229. Well said. And all too rare in the people whom we see often in the media
Guess it's not so surprising that the other media people seem to think his following is due to his snarkiness alone. They don't get it at all. REAL humor has heart in it, which is one reason he's so funny. If he wasn't dead-serious about the important things, he wouldn't be nearly so appealing. And he does value others and does not try to preen at their expense.

Well, here I am preaching to the converted. Good night, bleev - have a good weekend!

since I will be in the dungeon with no windows tomorrow. (Boss named it the dungeon.) Since I will be there leaving a sunny warm Pismo Beach pic.

And for Bleever that showed up a classic car pic.

I like to believe the old guy had that car since day one. He was so lovingly wiping it down.

Have a good night all.

192. For a different sort of Nature Photo - this one is computer-generated!
The program is called Terragen, and the creator's name is on the photo. You can tell pretty easily, for example the shores don't look natural. But it's fun anyway. Would be a good sort of screen saver - new earthlike and otherworldly landscapes served up at your whim. I had one like that once and enjoyed it. Like the natural photos on the one I have now (built in on iMac G5) much better, though. They're much more alive.

221. the time change has indeed been kicking my butt
And for some reason, the clock in my car now refuses to change. I figure by the time I have my brain programmed to understand that the clock is one hour off, the time will change again and the clock will be correct and I'll really be screwed. Ah, I love aging cars. All the little things that aren't worth fixing that drive you nuts.

207. This is the picture!
Yes, this is Valhalla where the spirits go after "Viking Funerals."

As the ship was lit and drifted out into Gull Bay almost 1/2 way to
Love Island the EDVs many of them long in the tooth raised their
glasses to W.G.'s spirit. Two EDVs had blond offspring in their
30's who felt an unnatural kinship to the Vikings and wondered
why their mothers always laughed when they past the "Gull Bay
Tea House," that stood where the old "Crimson River Bar" used to
be before the explosion in the boiler room.

And then a funny sight happened; Bay Airs came forth from the forest
and stood and waved as the crimson embers from the ship
mingled with the sky. And the salmon were running up the Crimson
River, past the Bleever Pond and were spawning in CC creek.

So ends the saga of Gull Bay.

224. Whoa, Botany - pretty idyllic but I don't know about the
"long in the tooth" and I don't want Gull Bay to end!

Did you see that Bleever took that busload of Norwegian XC skiers you gave us away last night? That got me going and I wrote Chapter 3, and then Crispini chimed in with Chapter 4 - I hope this doesn't seem like copyright infringement! You got us going and we couldn't stop ourselves! The result is here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=315x2305

Nobody's written Chapter 5 yet - I hope the next person doesn't kill us all off!

We still need to bring over some of your other wonderful Gull Bay installments to this clubhouse thread to savor. You really cheered us up last night, Botany! And thanks for your very thoughtful gift of all those Norwegian skiers, even though bleever took them away. Sure took our minds off our problems!
