If you're in Ohio, you may want to consider holding your nose and thanking George Voinovich.

1. I watched the whole thing TWICE -- second time, to make
sure I wasn't tripping the first time!

Kerry, Boxer, Dodd, Biden and Obama did us all proud today. And I wonder what Hagel and Voinovich are after? :eyes:

5. Sure did. Looks like he's under a lot of pressure to
"get 'er done" and isn't liking his job very much.

3. My husband & I gasped watching it on CSPAN when Voinovich said that he was
unwilling to support his nomination at this time based on information he had heard....Literally, I gasped in shock...right before he spoke, I told my husband "Oh, there is the right wing piece of shit from OH, Voinovich"...he'll probably kiss Bolton's rump...WRONG!

When he said what he did, the camera went on to Lugar's face and my husband turned and said "that guy just got the carpet pulled from under him, didn't he?"

Yep, Lugar, who always looks as insincere (or that he doesn't buy the BS he spews out his mouth as he says it) looked like he knew he was screwed and he started to backpedal...

I can only say this...you know things are bad when someone like Voinovich says this...and hats off to Ohions that have been probably pummeling his office with calls...I just can't imagine this guy saying this unless he realizes he will be on the hot seat if he votes for Bolton...

7. I hope you're right. My take is that he wants something
and ditto for Hagel -- from their party. But, the cynicism quotient has gone up a lot for me since 2000.

6. I saw Dodd, Kerry, Boxer, Biden! Wow!
I thought they were gonna make everyone stay after class-they were so pissed.

And George Allen's face. So sincere. So reasonable.

8. They were packed around that table, trying not to get
each other's kooties. There was definitely something sort of funny about the staging.

9. Voinovich is one Strange case..
Emphasis on strange because the guy is bad news...

He is one of the higher members of Knights of Malta, the overseas version of Catholicism's Opus-Dei network.

He rarely does anything without approval of his....friends in the prayer breakfast council of Arlington Virginia...

And he has disturbing background, including fraud in his elections.

Voinovich probably has an agenda of some kind....But even he couldn't let a nutcase like Bolton pass through, so maybe he too is questioning the cult's motives....

10. I don't know anything about him, but if there's election fraud
then he and Chuck are in at least one club together.

Wasn't Hagel the CEO at ES&S, and didn't the same count every single vote in his first election? And, last time I looked, he still owned stock in the company. (Is it ES&S or Sequoia?)

11. Good point.
But the proof which Bob Fitrakis and the rest of us uncovered was not related to ES&S directly, it was related to Voinovich's hometown.

Thomas Frutig and his lawfirm, paid for Voinovich to get elected indirectly through his brother's large scale company. Voinovich industries as they call it.

It was all a stirred political religious game, because Frutig is the opponent of Supreme Justice Thomas Moyers and Frutig's lawfirm, paid to have Celebreeze's election rigged out and Moyers put into the high seat.

Knowing the nutty schemes of Voinovich's company, it wouldn't be surprising to find Blackwell was elected the same way. Ohio gate as they called it costed the state millions of dollars and embezzled funds.

Voinovich's friend went to prison but, Voinovich was elected straight to the senate by the Arlington Virginia Family and commended for his job well done.

The crazy strange numbers in all of Voinovich's elections, were as familiar as the Ohio numbers in 2004, so the scam goes back more than 10 years in the timetable.

12. Wow. Just wow. I was in grad school and not paying attention
The last five years have been some kind of never ending, eyelid peeling nightmare.

These two are angling for something. Maybe a committee seat, who knows what. Because they know that this nomination must go through to stay with the program and now, they're working it. Cannibalism 101

I miss grad school.

14. Not many know the full story.
Here's a little catch-up history

"Bob Fitrakis is at his best when he writes about George Voinovich at his worst. Catching Voinovich at his worst was not that hard when the former "frugal" Cleveland mayor and future "moderate" U.S. senator held statehouse ethics hostage as Ohio's governor in the 1990s. So it's not surprising that The Fitrakis Files: The Brothers Voinovich and the Ohiogate Scandal -- the fourth compilation of the Columbus State Community College professor, lawyer, activist, and talk-radio firebrand's writings -- is probably his best.

Mifsud apparently believed being a member of the Knights of Malta gave him prosecution-proof armor and the belief he could do no wrong. As Fitrakis, more than any other journalist, documented, Mifsud could actually do almost no right. It all caught up with the Mifsud when he struck a deal with T.G. Banks, who was to minority contracting what fellow Ohioan Don King was to boxing -- a flamboyant parasite -- for a low-cost home renovation job for Mifsud's future wife. Thanks greatly to the pressure Fitrakis kept on the scandal once it started unraveling, Mifsud and Banks went to jail. Voinovich, unfortunately, went to Washington, where he joined his former sycophant and lieutenant governor, Mike DeWine, in the Senate. DeWine earned his way into the world's most exclusive club for helping destroy Joe Gilyard, who had the audacity to complain about efforts to force him to steer jail-construction contracts to the Voinovich Companies owned by Pauly Voinovich."

"calling for an investigation Voinovich could ill afford. Disappointed with losing but still strong, I had not planned what I would do if I won, I planned what I would do if I lost the election. Several months passed when I saw a curious help wanted ad in the paper. A statewide campaign was looking for media savvy staff. I answered the ad and found the best, yet weirdest job I ever had. The law firm of Frutig, Polito and Travis was functioning as the fund raising mechanism for the campaign of Thomas J. Moyer who was a candidate for Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court. Thomas R. Frutig was the boss. He was tall, with a unruly shock of prematurely white hair. He walked fast, his limbs seemed to flail about in disparate directions. He talked fast, sometimes frothing at the mouth, he used really big words unneccessarily and left you with the impression he was a serviceble maniac. This impression, however, turned out to be on point. Frutig was simply a rich boy (his wife's money) playing lawyer and political king maker. The entire staff was intimidated of him, not to mention incompetent. To date, they had spent $50,000 to raise $5,000! Most days, they looked in books from the republican congressional office about campaigning to decide what to do, really.

I was given a very strange IQ or aptitude test of sorts; required of all potential candidates. Apparently, I passed for Frutig kept me out till 11 p.m. discussing "the matrix". The matrix was his favorite term. No one ever figured out what the hell it was, but he would often come storming into the office, like a big angry scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, hair flying, eyes bulging and in a semi-comatose rage, draw huge, undecipherable hieroglyphics on the conference room walls; all the while lecturing us about the matrix! His trade mark saying, that we would later tongue-in-cheek adopt for the campaign slogan was "Keep your spinnaker full, blow sunshine up their asses and run up their backs with hobnail boots!" He probably stole it from some one else, but it was colorful and illustrative of Frutig's energy and delusion."

That should fill in a bunch of this man's biography.
