State election reformers: county-by-county list of voting systems
TIA PMed me this link as I was preparing for our presentation to the Tennessee legislature today. It has been posted before but I thought I would re-post to make sure everyone is aware of this resource. It is an amazing source of information on the voting systems in place in all 3,000+ U.S. counties.

The link below will take you to the information. There, for every U.S. county, you will find the following:

BushVotes, KerryVotes, NaderVotes, Incidents (not sure what this means -- in Tennessee, this column was all "0"s), Technology, Vendor, Population, MalePct, FemalePct, 54YoungerPct, 55OlderPct, and the "reported" Winner.

This is information we have requested from our Coordinator of Elections, but have not received. (Wonder why?) Boy, is he going to be pissed today when I refer to this information before the legislature.

2. Thanks...
Is there data on what systems favored Bush collectively? (Not that any of us would be surprised by the results...)

5. Wow - That is an excellent resource! But I think the key is wrong (?)
Edited on Tue May-17-05 10:42 AM by meganmonkey
I am a little confused - The key indicates that the Bush votes are listed before the Kerry votes, but I think it is the other way around...

Here is my red county:

MI_jackson, "MI", "Jackson", 31013, 39713, 412, 0, "Bush"

Here is a nearby blue county:

MI_washtenaw, "MI", "Washtenaw", 109872, 61425, 923, 0, , "Kerry"

(I took out most of the data - just leaving the locations and vote totals...)

Am I loony or is this backwards?
(well, I'm probably loony regardless...)

9. I think you're right -- the Bush and Kerry totals are labelled wrong.
The Kerry votes are the first total and Bush is second. I will try to contact the author to let him know the key is reversed. Thanks for catching this.

BTW, the presentation to the TN legislature went very well. I got a standing ovation from the packed gallery after my presentation (half of whom were bedecked with orange ribbon -- the symbol of solidarity with the Ukrainians that our group (Gathering To Save Our Democracy) has adopted).

The only legislator who spoke after my presentation said that he favors paper ballots (and he's a Republican). I'll post a thread with more details shortly.

10. I contacted the original author and mentioned the mislabeled variables
He also posted the October voter registration numbers for the counties and mentioned in his write-up that the November vote totals in a number of counties were higher than the total voter registration in October. An analysis of where that phenomenon occurred would be well worth doing, particularly if same day registration wasn't allowed in those counties. The author suggests fraud. (Well, imagine that. Not OUR President, the Krispy Khristian.)

Someone should turn the file into an analyzable format and pinpoint those over-zealous counties. (TIA?)
