***NY SENATE RACE FLIPPING TO DEM IN RECOUNT!!!***
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 02:32 PM by TorchTheWitch
Originally posted here with boring subject line so it wasn't getting the attention it deserved...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x36777

Two BIG things about this:

1) Senate race recount is flipping to Dem so we may pick up a Dem Senate seat
2) The recount is due to MACHINE VOTE TAMPERING

Brief summary... Senate race. Dem is Stewart-Cousins. Rep is Spano. Spano won the election. A recount is being done as there were more Dem votes in the machines then were recorded during the election. The Dem is now winning in the recount. We may get a Senate seat to flip to a Dem. AND we have a recount in progress due to machine vote tampering that should set a precedent for the whole 2004 election.

http://www.wnbc.com/politics/3902820/detail.html

<snip>

"The two sides have traded allegations about irregularities in the voting, with Republicans claiming voters were imported from New York City and Democrats claiming voters were harassed and voting machines were tampered with. All machines and records were impounded by judges.

The county Board of Elections disclosed Friday that seals on 22 machines were damaged or missing.

As the recount progressed on Monday, election workers, closely watched by representatives of the campaigns, compared vote totals recorded on machines with the tallies reported by poll workers on Election Night.

Jonathan Rosen, director of the state Democrats' campaign committee, said Berger told him that nearly every machine had a higher count for Stewart-Cousins than was recorded. However, Spano also gained votes, including 80 from one machine, Rosen said."

...

Even if the Dem doesn't end up winning in the recount, this is still good news as it sets a precedent... the machines are either fucked up or the RePukes have been fondling them!

Shame on me for reposting this with some bells and whistles in the subject line, but it's too important to drop like a rock.

Sorry, didn't remember his name. I'm still bummed that Florida is no longer 2 Dems in DC.

14. well, the senate race wasn't really my point
Although any seat anywhere getting a Dem butt in it is good news. It's the machine vote tampering precedent being set. Nobody seemed to give a crap about the vote tampering precendent with the previous boring subject line.

Shameless of me, I know.

6. Nick Spano needs to go! so Yonkers can breathe!
He has been getting fat off the land for far too long. I am sick of him, thank god for Andrea-Stewart Cousins, I voted for her, and I know i n my heart she won. Hopefully she can do something to fix the ailing Yonkers school system.

8. That'll Get "Machine Tampering" on the News
That's almost as good as the flip. It's no longer a conspiracy theory -- it's changed the offiical outcome of a race. Could be the tip of the iceberg.

34. BIIIINGO!! You stole the words out of my mouth, but
that's OK. This is setting a precedent for getting seats changed due to machine tampering. A very important though small victory.

9. this is GOOD news
on many levels - the highest level being that this issue raises the bar for the Pukes to prove it didn't happen elsewhere. This can open the door for numerous challenges. Has this made the media yet? They can't ignore something like this - it's big.

24. Just tried calling
Tried to call Westchester County Board of Elections to find out. When I asked what sort of machines were used in the 35th district election, a *very* exasperated operator said 'hold on a second' and cut the connection.

If anyone else wants to try, here's the number: 914 995-5700

29. Lever machines?
Anyone know how these work? This seems odd since the article says that one or some of the machines were 'preloaded' with republican votes and that there were more votes in the machine than was being recorded. That made me assume they were computerized. There's a frustrating lack of information in the press.

30. Preloading is possible
Lever machines = big machine, voter pushes buttons for candidate, then pulls a very large lever (hence the name) which records the votes. Precursor to electronic voting and infamous for preloaded hackability.

16. New York Times Article about this
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/06/nyregion/06spano.html

most new articles about this are conspicuously NOT mentioning the reason for the recount and the reason the Democrats votes weren't counted in the first place. Few are mentioning the broken seals on many machines which might indicate tampering. I wonder why?

He has plenty of henchman in Westchester County. He's from Peeksksill, also in Westchester County, and uses his old buddies there to keep things in line.

Keep up the good work, people. Don't let the Naderites and GOP operatives discourage you to fight tooth and nail for this election.

It ain't over until the vote is certified and even then, legal challenges may cause a Constitutional crisis, which would be much better than a Bush appointed Supreme Court, fer sure.

Show your support for the president, wear a FUCK BUSH button!

40. TOTAL OF 10% PERCENT CHANGE, Kerry would win at least 6 more states
If you notice, the vote swung by 1.5% with only 15% of machines being counted.

THAT IS HUGE!

That means that if the same ratio keeps up, the vote will change a total of 10%!!!!!!!
