early voting approved in illinois |
|
Voters would be able to vote in person before Election Day and even on Saturdays and Sundays, under a bill Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed into law this week. thread in ill forum. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=150x9030

1. I have mixed emotions over early voting. |
|
Early voting can leave the votes in unguarded circumstances, due to design or happenstance until election day.

in a way, it is a parallel election. it seems to me that these early/absentee votes go through a slightly different path than the normal channels, and may give different snapshot of an election. no votes are really secure these days, tho, you are right about that.

4. Basically a good idea, but security is a problem |

Only VVPB with mandatory random audits will ever give us accurate elections.

5. Security is still a large problem. |

I hope illinois gets some real non-partisan election observers in there before they feel a Blackwell meltdown, like what was noticed in Ohio.

6. personally, i think we do have problems |

i think there was a lot of theft of kerry republican votes in lake county. last year there was some early voting for people who voted absentee, they could go to city or county offices to vote, i think for a week before. no one handled those votes besides government employees. not that that means they were counted fairly. but i think the discrepancies that we saw between the absentee votes and election day votes gave a boost to people looking for anomalies. at least it sets up a different set of counters. i suppose they will close that loophole as soon as we make something of it.
