The Honorable Senator Max Cleland of Georgia
WE, THE PEOPLE"
of Ottawa County and Northwestern Ohio
"FACTIONS. FEARS, FREEDOM AND COMMUNICATIONS"
Senator Cleland will give an inspiring address and answer questions about developing opportunities for citizens to impact their government and the economy of the local area, Northwest Ohio, and other troubled regions of the U.S. and world. What can we learn from each other?
Senator Cleland is an inspiring speaker and author. His books include: "Strong at the Broken Places"; "Going for Max: 12 Principles for Living Life to the Fullest"; "Odysseus in America: Combat Trauma and the Trials of Homecoming"; "Voices of War: Stories of Service from the Homefront and the Front Lines"; "Another Vietnam: Pictures of the War from the Other Side."
He was born in Atlanta and graduated from Stetson University and Emory University. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968, was seriously wounded in combat in Vietnam, appointed administrator of the U.S. Veterans Administration by President Carter, elected Georgia Secretary of State, and elected U.S. Senator from Georgia (1997 to 2003). He was one of the first Vietnam Veterans to be attacked politically by members of the current administration and lost his bid for reelection in 2002. A fuller bio is available at:
