What the h*ll is wrong in Ohio? How can this be?
After a year and a half of reading about Ken Blackwell I don't understand how he can become governer or be elected to any office anywhere.

Blackwell has 11-point lead with 5 weeks left

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell holds a double-digit lead in Ohio’s GOP gubernatorial primary race in the first Dispatch Poll before the May 2 election.

While Attorney General Jim Petro trails by 11 points, nearly a third of Republican voters remain undecided. That means Petro must win two out of every three of those uncommitted voters just to draw even as the candidates fire up their TV ad war over the final five weeks of the campaign.

Blackwell’s margin might help explain his decisions not to debate Petro and to limit media access. The front-runner will face a crucial decision as the primary approaches on whether to spend the bulk of his campaign cash to counter a probable all-or-nothing Petro onslaught or to save some money for the fall campaign.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland has a commanding 43-point lead over former state Rep. Bryan Flannery with 41 percent saying they are undecided. That means Strickland probably can preserve most of his cash reserves, although he is currently airing his first TV ad.

2. the polls are now totally skewed by unrealistic assumptions about
relative party strength BASED ON PAST ELECTIONS

the polls and inaccurate elections are like twin stars that orbit each other, flying off into space.... the polls trailing the lead star just a bit

3. I hope you are right.
I still don't understand how he can even win this primary. The smell in Ohio is worse than a two week rotting deer corpse. (We had one near our mailbox, and it was disgusting.)

4. & why are 42% of Dems still undecided re Sharrod Brown?
Is this an anti-incumbent factor?

8. well, a 50-point lead isn't a bad start...
Sherrod Brown hasn't run for statewide office since 1990. And he isn't exactly in a hotly contested primary to boost his visibility.

Probably some folks are annoyed about the circumstances of Paul Hackett's withdrawal -- but most of the undecideds are probably barely aware that there is a primary coming up.

5. He owns the voting machines.
Another poster wised me up when I asked the same question. How could Ohio support this far right, bomb throwing, Bush enabling candidate? Doesn't matter. As Blackwell demonstrated in 2004, he controls the voting machines. Only hope for stopping him is for the media to work hard to expose him. Good luck, Ohio.

the GOP favorite.

17. That's an 11 % lead among REPUBLICANS only !
This is a poll on the PRIMARY - only REPUBLICANS are counted for this race!

How many votes he'll have to steal to overthrow the general election is another matter altogether.

18. Easy answer
For instance...my county (Richland) recently got their Diebold machines and are in the process of demonstrating how to use them at all the county libraries...Hell this is probably the program that's already in them...

20. Blackwell's got the suburban fundie vote locked up.
I think it bodes well for the Democrats in Ohio if Blackwell's the Repuke candidate, frankly. So much there to run against--and his presence on the ballot will definitely motivate the Dem base to turn out in November. The big question is, what will African American voters in Ohio's urban northern counties do? Assuming they actually get to vote, that is.

23. I've mentioned this before but Strickland can beat Blackwell
easier than he could beat Petro. Petro is from the Cleveland area and could possible steal some liberal voters. Where as Blackwell is loathed all OVER the state, well except maybe SW Ohio! In fact I know a good deal many Republicans that will NOT vote for Blackwell. There are even some that are forming Republican's for Strickland organizations in preparation for a general election featuring Blackwell and Strickland.

In the end all the minorities and liberals that were denied their right to vote in 2004 will be out in full force in the general. Blackwell has no chance because even the African American community will not support the idiot! Right now Blackwell is in the lead in the Republican Primary because he has the fundie vote locked up tight. Plus Petro is being nailed by Blackwell over his ties to the Noe scandal. I think that has scared off a great deal of Republicans from supporting either candidate!

I am predicting a Strickland landslide in the general!
