I am a newbie, though a long-time lurker. I tried to join on Nov 3, but DU was locked to new registrants. No one is talking to me, and I can understand why, but I am true blue for the good side. How can I prove myself?

If you are not what you claim you are, you will prove yourself the other way.
Or the Lorenzacchio syndrome or the Egyptian comedian saint who pretended to be a bishop to trap the Christian prisoners into talking.
That is to say, converts. Which we have NOT seen yet. The truth moves few people in these times when money rewards evil.
Just be honest and open.

Don't worry if you feel ignored - most of us don't talk with one another. This board moves so fast it is unusual to get a direct response to any post. Most threads drop quickly.
There are only a few rules on DU. Don't knock Democrats or Democratic nominees, don't personally attack anybody, and don't call anybody a troll. If you are concerned that a post or poster is breaking the rules, just hit the "alert" button on the bottom left of the post and let the mods look at it.
This thread will probably be locked because it is a violation of the DU rules to start threads with vague accusations about freepers and disruptors - for the very reason that it makes lots of innocent people feel uncomfortable.
If you are new to DU you are welcome as long as you follow the rules!

being a low post count, if you immediately start a thread that says "I'm so depressed," or venting, or ragging on the D's, or ragging on the election fraud activists, this being so soon after the election, and this being a particularly troll infested time, you're, unfortunately, going to seem like a troll to some people. This is a perfectly valid way to feel, of course, but you might be best off expressing such opinions on similar thread which has already been started by a high post counter.
also, try the lounge, it's good for chit chat and venting and thus getting your count up.
and, a lot of times people DON'T respond to your posts... I consider it quite an honor when I get a response or start something that stays on the front page of a forum for more than a few minutes. that's just life on DU.... :hi:
oh, and source, source, source. always substantiate your statements, that's a good way to build cred. and try not to post something that's been on here 1000 times already, that's another way to build cred.
HTH.... :D welcome to DU.

Hi, I'm new too and got into trouble for questioning some info someone posted because I'm paranoid by nature (Not big trouble just some shouting). But a lot of times my post are ignored or I lose the thread and can't find it again. It's no big deal. I've been to other boards and they are the same way. Long timers know each other and are comfortable talking to each other. It's just great to have another liberal to talk with.

welcome to DU. If you are one of the good guys it will be apparent. You may get a few digs.... look at my post count, someone with about 1/20 of my time and post count here accused me of being a freeper just about 2 months ago because I was less than thrilled with Kerry. You are not being singled out to be ignored. It takes people awhile to recognize and start answering your posts. If you want to be an annoying militant feminist and Dean supporter like me you will get lost of answers, they just might not all be very nice. :7

Keep typing, and if you don't lose credibility by posting something inane, like spouting off FNC talking-points, or acting peculiarly - saying what right-wingers might think a Democrat might say - then you'll be just fine.

I fell in love with this place when I saw the first Zappa avatar next to a Morrison one and a user name John O'Neill's Memory.
This is not exactly "Forum for Dummies" I'd love to be able to sample the IQ here and compare it to macht frei republic site. They probably have that hooked up to Diebold too.
Uh, we proud merkins have an average IQ of 732.

I have been reading this thread since November 4! I live in Ohio and everyone I know voted for Kerry! My Aunt got 5 people who have never voted before to vote! With all these NEW voters how does BUSH win? Easy just make people in DEMOCRATIC areas wait in line for 3 hours or more.
This is my main question. If we can spend BILLIONS in IRAQ why can't we spend BILLIONS to reform are election?
Proposal for election reform-
1) In a year involving the Presidential Election the Election date will be considered a national holiday!
2) ALL voting machines in the US will be the EXACT SAME!! (An independent company will develop a machine that everyone understands. The company can have NO ties to ether party!)
3) PAPER TRAILS ARE required!! The voter gets a copy and a second copy printed and put into a box. The paper should have some kind of id# so you can go to the NATIONAL ELECTIONS website and enter your id#. After entering the id# it will state the time and who you voted for.
Sure this would be a huge cost but I think it would be well worth it. YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON DEMOCRACY!!!!

This thread was started right after I was ripped apart by some of the older members here...my post is the one full of tombstones that day...and my inbox was full of "f*** you" because I DARED say that I was afraid that the recounts wouldn't happen.

But I noticed the same thing. Some of them try to be subtle since this is pretty heavily moderated. I am wondering about the agenda. I mean, if the voting was honest, why would they care? Because of all this, some are hard to figure out. There was one dude who was trying to talk everyone out of wanting to count New Hampshire, the reason being that it would end up being ok and everyone would lose interest in Ohio after it did. Hmmmm. He was new. It made me wonder if there really wasn't something there to be found in New Hampshire after all. We could hope. His reasoning was faulty, to my mind, so naturally I was suspicious of his post. However, some people just come by faulty reasoning naturally, if you know what I mean (and apparently some even at MIT and Caltech). I've already been welcomed in another thread, so HI and I hear ya.

44. Hi, and welcome to DU. There is an amazing number of new members |
|
at DU this week. We must have struck a nerve. There's a lot of obvious freepers that get bounced quickly. But there are some that know enough to be more subtle...and they really seem worried about the vote recount, so they try to dissuade us from it.
However, I have seen some intelligent posts by newcomers whose views aren't quite in the mainstream of DU. These are most certainly welcome. But they might be viewed skeptically because we've had so many freepers loitering here. They shouldn't take it personally.

I was really happy to find this place a few weeks ago, but couldn't sign up until a couple of days ago. A lot of people that I know are just ready to move on, they don't seem to want to fight. I'm glad there are people who do want to fight!

54. Very true. We've had many scared freepers trying to influence us |
|
They want to stop the investigations and avoid any recounts. I wonder why? :eyes:
LOL! Too bad for them. We're going ahead and we're going to find the truth, whatever it may be. :toast:

I started checking out DU before the sElection, tried to join on sElection day and couldn't for several days, and just got on last night. I would be going nuts if I hadn't found DU. Where do I go to learn how to speak blog? Is there an online dictionary anywhere? Whats a freeper? What's "kick"? What's n/t? Sorry to be so annoying. You can haze me about it.:argh:

then I couldn't remember my password, so I was going insane. This was my only source of sanity. I even called my sister who I no longer was speaking to. Then, I was sent a new password, ahhhh.

52. Good observation. I think its great so many are here. I also think that |
|
even disruptors are inadverdantly infected with a good idea or two. I like it when someone pisses someone else off unntentionally just because of an omitted comma or some linguistic misunderstanding.

Indiana, eh? Any news on a possible re-vote or re-count there? I read about the straight Dem ticket votes going to the Libertarians. I can't say I'm all that shocked after all the revelations in other states. Do you know what kind of machines are used there?

I am so glad that so many people are concerned enough about the questionable election to join us after said election. It's a good sign that people are staying involved.

One day George W. and Dick Cheney walk into a diner. A waitress walks up to them and asks if she can take their order. W. leans close to her and says, "Honey, can I have a quickie?"
The waitress is appalled and yells at the president about women's rights and then storms away, Cheney then says to W., "It's pronounced quiche." :7

Did you ever think for just a minute that alot of these 'newbies' have maybe lurked since the primaries (or before), or saw the reference to DU in this week's TIME magazine, or are just plain old flabbegasted liberals/Dems looking for someplace to regroup ??
There WAS a national election 2 weeks ago, right ?
Politics IS on alot of people's minds, right ?
Why must every newcomer automatically be considered a troll ?? What gives any ONE of us the carte blanche to call someone out ?????
That's such a GOP tactic:! "Boo! We don't know you ! You must be the enemy here to do harm!! Go Away !"
I really and truly thought liberals were bigger than that.
Sigh.
