Funding the recounts: Do GELAC funds have to be reported?
I know campaign income and expenses have to be reported but I thought I read somewhere that GELAC funds are not limited and do not have to be publicly reported.

If that is the case, why haven't the DNC and the K/E campaigns written checks? They are sitting on millions of dollars donated by ordinary voters like us specifically set up for the purpose of counting votes.

Even if the checks have to be reported, then so what? Is this all about Kerry saving face and not looking like a sore loser or is it about making sure that all the votes are counted like he said?

How does making sure the vote counts with a check while simultaneously saying publicly that they are not trying to overturn the vote make him look like a sore loser?

Pardon my rant but it looks to me like this whole recount thing may very well fizzle out for lack of funds while the funds needed are sitting in a pile at DNC/KE headquarters.

If that happens then the Dems can count me out next time around.

1. I did fundraising for the GELAC fund for Kerry....based on what I know,
...these funds were originally limited to $2,000 per individual and were publicly disclosed and they could not come from any business or organization...

My understanding is that they were to be used solely for legal challenges, but its possible that under FEC guidelines that they could revert back to the general fund of the DNC or for expenses of the Kerry campaign following the end of the election....not sure...

I too am pissed if the case is that they have closed shop...I've had people that donated to the GELAC fund at my urging in amounts of $1000+ that are mad as hell and want their money back...and rightfully so if in fact the Kerry campaign just conceded and moved on...

I'm waiting judgement though...I have a suspicion that there is more going on than meets the eye, and that the Kerry campaign may surprise us yet....stealth mode...but if in fact they closed shop and didn't meet and fulfill their promise to the people that gave money and us, the voters, than I can also say they have lost a lot of support, myself included and will never get another dime from me.
