red herring coming our way- race fixed for dem.
mark crispin miller has suggested that rethugs will cry foul on the dems next week, in their usual, and so far very successful, strategy of immunizing themselves. the big bad dems are cheating, wawawaaaaa. it occurs to me that in order for this to really work, they might just fix a close race for the dem. if they get their recount, and the thug is seated, they win. if they pick the right dem, like melissa bean, win or lose, they pretty much win, anyway. (there has been a few whispers that if we get a near even split, bean may even jump parties.) or, they may pick someone they would just like to throw overboard, anyway.
so, my question to you is, who? let's see if we can figure out, in advance, which race will be the red herring.
this thread on fraud risk should be a valuable tool.

although, it is not necessarily a congressional race, it could be a governor, or even a state level office. i think any old race will do.
which leads me to my guess. i predict that race will be the illinois governor. this race is soooo tight. there is a green party candidate, always useful for muddying the waters, and, imho, importantly, the R in the race is a woman. i have noticed that the grand old perverts will back up any of the good old boys, no matter what, but they do not seem to go to the mat for the katherine harrises. furthermore, judy barr topinka is a pretty moderate R, and has sort of stiff armed the thief in chief.

so, take a stab.

7. whichever one is the closest, of course
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 11:18 PM by Faye
i am thinking it will go 2 ways:

it will come down to one race that decides which side gets 'power'....

if the Dems win the closest race (despite all expected attempts at Repubs election fraud), Republicans will blame "voter fraud".

OR

it will come down to the closest race, Republicans will miraculously win it, Dems will contest it and ask for recount, and the Republicans will fight it and run out the clock like they usually do, and they will take the seat (fraudulently)

10. no, they have it picked now
this will take a little more finesse than just stealing a race. they have to fix it for the dem, but make it look like the dems did it. no fingerprints. a real black bag job.

5. you missed the point
(but don't think dems never cheat. just ask any of my fellow chicagoans.) they will fix a race, give it to a dem, then cry foul, recount, and discover- gosh darn those dems stole the race. see?

3. They are already accusing Sequoia e-voting machines of ties to Hugo Chavez
They are mobilizing for a post-election assault. Be ready.

8. But I really don't think there's been any hanky panky on behalf of Chavez
I just see the Repugs laying the groundwork for a showdown.

In a way I welcome it. Because the only way we'll get real election reform will be if both sides agree there's a problem. That will be the beginning of the end of voting into a black hole. Bring it on, Repugs. Bring it on!

20. i'm hoping
that these nut jobs are at the end of their ropes, and this will explode in their faces. not that i think that will be the end of it. no more than the visit from the exterminator is the end of roaches.

12. if they get their recount, then they'll be setting a precedent for recounts
and Dems will be able to challenge races and get the recounts they've been denied in past elections...seems like this plan could possibly backfire.

13. well this is mcm's theory, sorta
i am embellishing on it, but he says that is the plan- to cry foul, and pin vote stealing on dems. i am not sure what the details of his prediction are, but it seems like it would have to be something like what i have laid out.

19. interesting choice
but, i don't think they will risk it on a senate seat, tho. remember, if they get outlawyered, they could lose the seat.
but who knows. available mechanics on the ground could mean a lot. especially if the volunteers are really turning on them. they would need a team of true believers. are they getting scarce? so, it could be any race. an interesting possiblility.
and nh smelled funny to me. like there was something more behind it. was it the gop's gift from ralph?

16. Busby-Billbray
My guess is Francine Busby will win a SQUEAKER in CA-50, despite the voting machine sleepovers, a seemingly crooked BoE and remnants of the special election that Hasturd declared the winner and swore in before the election was even certified (see kpete's lawsuit HERE. Land Shark's appeal is somewhere on DU, too).

So, Francine Busby wins and the rethugs call "FOUL!" Of course the GOP has all the $$$ to perform a recount and a dollar to a donut sez Hasturd doesn't swear in Busby before all the votes are counted, recounted and certified.

My runner-up will be the US Senate seat in NJ: Bob Menendez (D) vs Tom Kean, Jr. (R). Menendez also wins a SQUEAKER and Kean cries "FOUL!", concocting some bogus story about voter fraud in Menendez's home district.

Second runner-up is Jim Webb (D) vs Macaca (R) in VA. Huge upset win for Webb and Macaca claims his seat was STOLEN! VA has had enough funny bizness with Diebold that this race may be the fertile ground the GOPhers are looking for.

Let's hope I'm wrong and MCM is wrong. But I put nothing past these thugs.

:patriot:

although i think there are too many gop finger prints on busby-bilray for them to open that can of worms. allen-webb sounds real plausible to me.
