DU this Poll for Paper voting.
It's an Austin poll and Texas does not even have a paper trail.

What provoked this poll is this story about neighboring Lockhart electronic voting snafus. ONLY 18 votes and 6 go missing!
Does not bode well for the fall...

Missed votes change Lockhart election results

Six votes were missing from the Dale Volunteer Fire Department voting location.

Davis was one of 18 people who voted in the Lockhart Independent School District school board election at the Dale Volunteer Fire Department Saturday. Due to an error, only the 12 paper ballots from the precinct were counted.

Saturday night, when the election results were first posted they showed only 12 votes from the Dale area. There had been 18 – six votes were missing.

The school district had to call the election judges back in to find out where those missing votes had gone.

"Found out that we had six electronic votes we had not counted. When we opened that back up, there was one vote additional for Mr. McKee and five for Mr. Benavides," Janie Wright, Lockhart ISD's assistant superintendent, said.

With one vote separating the candidates, Allen McKee has requested a recount.

4. It's now at 60% for paper! Thanks for the heads up! I voted!
But it's still hasn't reached Zogby's 92% for people wanting verifiable vote counting.

You've got to wonder if people voting in this on-line poll for "electronic" or "paper" have any idea what they are approving if they vote for "electronic." Also you can't vote for electronic with, say, 100% handcounted paper ballot for verification. There are no such details.

I wonder if they put the questions this way, how people would vote...

1. Some electronic voting systems have no paper ballot that can counted to verify the vote. Do you approve of such paperless voting systems?

YES?
NO?

2. Some electronic voting systems provide a paper ballot that can then be handcounted as a check on machine fraud. Given an electronic voting system, what percentage of the paper ballots should be counted in order to verify the machine count?

100%?

90%?

50%?

10%?

1%?

0%?

3. If the voting system in your district is electronic with a paper ballot that can be counted for verification of the vote, do you know what percentage of the paper ballots are actually counted (as a legally required audit)?

YES?
NO?

----------------------

These questions would give people better information with which to make a decision about voting methods, and would give the poll takers and the public more information about the voter's actual views. Some people taking such a poll might think "electronic" is okay with a 100% paper ballot audit, or 50%, or the minimum needed to detect MOST fraud (according to some experts), 10%. But to just say "electronic" doesn't say much.
