Who remembers Florida, 4 years ago?
What I recall was being very frustrated with how things were progressing down in Florida, a state I had just moved from.

Of course, there was no DU then, and keeping up with the real happenings was near impossible. Today, as news breaks, we see it flashed directly into our homes, thanks to you DU'ers.

My question: What was the time frame like then versus what we are seeing today. I remember the storming of the election board in Dade, and how pivotal that action was. Are we about to see the same thing happen in Ohio?

There really was no recount in Florida 2000, but it seems there will be in Ohio, thanks to the Glibs. Do you think the pubs are gearing up to storm an Ohio election office like they did? Or are they asleep this time?

1. Yep and there was no AAR then either.
No DU or AAR. It was a nightmare getting through some past elections.

3. The chad were really
biting at the time.... perhaps a bit too much....

If these were the only chads we had to worry about... this past 4 year national nightmare would only be an idea, rather than a reality.

4. some timeline on 2000
Katherine Harris certified Florida's results over Thanksgiving weekend in 2000. That led to the formal challenges and arguments in the courts which led to Judge Terry Lewis ordering the (final) recount which started -- and was stopped by Scalia's TRO -- on December 9.

Timewise, then, I suspect OH is now behind the 2000 schedule. Thanksgiving was later that year but I'm sure Harris certified the Florida election results in 2000 before Nov 30. It seems as though they are making every attempt to run out the clock in Ohio this year. And, with no one looking (except those of us "on the fringe" who believe in "conspiracies"), Blackwell's hoping to get away with it.

I do think the repugs are asleep about it, as is the MSM, and what I fear is that their sleepiness will be good enough for this "oh-who-cares" country of ours.

5. Thanks, Kainah
Oh, the memories. I couldn't believe the courts messing around like they did. And now we're in court in Ohio, eh?

Please, anyone who is close to Delaware county, Ohio, please get thyself down there and raise some hell for me. But don't do it just for me, do it for all of us.

Also, whomever has some contacts for Delaware county, post up those addys, so we can all take a few electronic shots at the court there.

8. Media studies showed Gore would have won by over 40,000 in fair count
I don't think there is any dispute that Gore got enough legal votes in 2000 to be declared the winner in Florida, and thus to be President; also that in a fair election Gore would have won by
well over 40,000 votes. This was documented by a major effort by big Newspapers, etc. Gore had enough uncounted legal in Florida overvotes where the voters could vote for Gore twice(and
did) because of ballot design, that he would have won without even counting the hanging chads which would have gone to him also. He had thousands vote for him twice in Palm Beach, Duval,
Gadsden because of faulty ballot design, wrong instructions by officials, and machines that rejected the votes if you voted for the same candidate twice on 2 different parts of the ballot.
Like the polls indicated, the Florida election should not have been close. But it was also confirmed that over 100,000 eligible minority voters weren't allowed to vote due to official
malfeasance(voter suppression)

10. More
Ya know, the pukes in Florida knew when there was a full recount, the facts would come out to place Gore as victor.

They know it now, in Ohio, too. And they will pull the same shit this time, unless we get ahead of 'em. Afterall, a very large percentage of the Ohio count was on punchcards, just like Florida 2000.
If you don't want to make a main post, let me know, I will.

16. Anyone have a link to this?
I've heard that a group of media outlets did a recount, and found Gore won. But I don't have an article for it.
Anyone out there have one?

Thnx in Advance

15. Glad the two of you made it, Sideways
I'll bet your daughter has an instinctive dislike for the VRW machine which stole the 2000 election.

You may have a natural born progressive activist there! Let's hope so, the world's gonna need all we can get.
