The L.A. Times did its own exit polling???
Just read it in this article in the esteemed Palladium Item newspaper:

http://www.pal-item.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041104/NEWS01/411040308/1008

BROWNSVILLE, Ind. -- Being chosen for election exit polling by a California newspaper might have been this small, unincorporated town's moment in the sun.

It could have led to a new slogan: "As Brownsville goes, so goes the nation."

Instead, a mostly missing pollster meant few Brownsville Township voters even knew exit polling for the Los Angeles Times had happened here

snip

Network exit polling is used to make predictions about election outcome, but the Times uses the information to better understand who voted and why they voted as they did, Richardson said. The Times has conducted nationwide exit polls for 20 years, the only other nationwide exit polling besides that done by the networks' consortium, she said.

snip

Has anyone heard about the L.A. Times's exit polling or their numbers for this year's election?

4. Ok - so they have precinct data from around the U.S.
But they aren't posted in their results. Why don't we try to get them to release their raw data? Why on Earth would the L.A. Times stonewall?

Adding up the figures in California:
Bush: Men 45 x (.48) + Women 42 x (.52) = 43.4
Kerry: Men 53 x (.48) + Women 57 x (.52) = 55.1

Summing up:

L.A. Times Exit Polls: 43/55
Edison-Mitofsky 4 PM Exit Polls: 46/54
Actual Results (SoS website): 44/55

*****************************************

Adding up their national figures, which they summed by region:

Bush: East 42 x (.24) + Midwest 54 x (.24) + South 57 (.32) + West 49 x (.20) = 51.08
Kerry: East 57 x (.24) + Midwest 45 x (.24) + South 42 (.32) + West 50 x (.20) = 47.98

Hm, that's a bummer..... Someone else might want to dig into this data deeper.

California Results:

See up-thread post on log-in info to by-pass L.A. Times's annoying subscription service.

6. The part about the missing exit poll worker
doesn't exactly instill confidence in the LA Times' exit polls. However, we need to ask them for their raw data and post it here in order to compare with Mitofsky's 4pm exit polls.
