PRESIDENTIAL RACE: Two seek statewide recount

Libertarian, Green Party hopefuls aren't expecting to change results

By ERIN NEFF
REVIEW-JOURNAL

Two minor party presidential candidates, who combined for less than one-half of 1 percent of the vote in Nevada, are asking the state to recount its presidential ballots to determine if errors or fraud may have altered the outcome.

The secretary of state's office on Monday received a letter from Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik and Green Party candidate David Cobb seeking the recount.

State law permits a candidate to seek a recount within three business days of the election canvass, a requirement met by Cobb and Badnarik.

Clerks and election officials will be asked to determine how much it will cost to recount the vote in each of the 17 counties. Once the state determines the cost of a recount, Badnarik and Cobb will receive a bill, for perhaps as much as $500,000.

4. And he should!
It's 'our' money, that is expressly what it was donated for.

5. Why is it that these ‘election officials’ always seem to be so defensive?

<snip>
"This is more baloney, frankly," Burk said. "It's just more individuals trying to question the system instead of allowing a count that has honesty and integrity."
<snip>
‘Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax called the requested recount "absurd." ‘.
/end
My question – what the fuck do they care? Isn’t this their job? And if somebody wants a recount – doesn’t that give them something to do. (Ok, I don’t know what they do all the time in-between elections either).

Others have pointed this out – why is it that *all* irregularities always favor the idiot (*)?

I personally want to fight this son-of-a-bitch to the very end. I just read (after all these years) that Gore actually had more votes in 2000. If this is true or even if it is not true, then what we are doing is absolutely the right thing to do.

One more thing, according to the Nevada Revised Statutes, only the requesting candidate and the winning candidate’s votes are counted. At least we will know * count.

Regards

6. Lomax is very defensive ....
He's been through at least one recount with those machines, I think. I need to look it up to find out when Ensign and Reid competed and Ensign paid for a recount as it was so close. It came out the same but I wonder, if they had those old paperless sequoias at that time ...how did he get a recount of Las Vegas that was verifiable?? Need to look for more info...

7. here's some interesting data about when these machines got there
This is excerpted from an investigative story that ran clear back in Sept. 02 ...note when Lomax entered the arena and why ...he took over the manipulation of those machines.

"Washoe County went on to purchase an optical scan system that utilized a paper ballot and a computer. It was chosen because if the computer failed, or if a recount was ordered, there were paper ballots available to verify the results of the election.'

(remember Washoe was bribed by Sequoia to purchase their machines a few months before this election)

'Following my participation in the evaluation process, I telephoned Clark County Commission Chairman Bruce Woodbury and Commissioner Don Schlesinger. I told them of the committee's findings and requested that Clark County carefully evaluate the purchase of an optical scan voting system and disqualify the paperless Sequoia Pacific system from contention. '

'In a letter written to the Washoe County Commission by Registrar of Voters Marlene Henderson, she stated "There is no way to conduct a 'recount' on the Sequoia AVC because there simply are no physical ballots to recount!"

(OK, if there is no way to conduct a recount on the old machines, then how are they going to do it?)

'She went on to say "The Sequoia costs 1000% more than the optical scan system and is incapable of processing absentee mail in ballots or challenged ballots forcing the purchase of a second system."

snip...

'I have studied the Sequoia Pacific voting system for many years and I am convinced that its' paperless status is perfectly suited for mass vote manipulation. To quickly and inexpensively remedy the situation, the county should heed Sen. Bill O'Donnell's suggestion and install a printer on each voting machine. That way the voter could review the printout of his or her ballot and deposit it in a locked box next to the voting machine in the event it was needed for a physical recount to verify the results of the electronic ballots.

In the meantime, County Registrar Ferguson has resigned and gone to work for the paper ballotless voting machine manufacturer. Her assistant Larry Lomax was hired to replace her and additional ballotless voting machines have since been purchased from Ferguson's company.'

...and you can find a link to the Buzzflash story about Sequoia bribing Washoe County to use their machines in the 2004 elections here where I had placed alot of the story links about the Nevada machines. If you know Las Vegas, you know they like to take risks down there....
