1. I would never have forgiven you if you didn't include PWBA.
Good morning, Mr. Crabtree, I'm gonna water my lawn!

3. I love Big Fish! Its a great movie AND,
it has my 'boyfriend' Ewan McGregor in it, so that makes it like 8 million times better. ;) :P

4. I'm a hetero male
But I have a crush on Billy Crudup, anyway. And Helena Bonham Carter. So I got all the eye candy I wanted, too.

Really, though, it's about as perfect a movie as I've ever seen, and from a very difficult book to script, too. The movie is all metaphors and allegory, and it still works perfectly.

5. I can't pick just one.
It'd have to be a three-way tie between Ed Wood, Nightmare Before Xmas and Edward Scissorhands.

I was eight years old when I saw Edward Scissorhands for the first time and it made me cry like a baby. I'm 23 and it still makes me cry. It's such a sad, beautiful movie.

Also one of Vincent Price's last (maybe the last? I don't remember).

9. Ed Wood is the greatest!
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: Kathy... I'm about to tell you something that I never told any girl on a first date. But I think it's important that you know... I like to wear women's clothes.
Kathy O'Hara: Huh?
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: I like to wear women's clothes. Panties, brassieres, sweaters, pumps. It's just something I do. And I can't believe I'm telling you this, but I really like you, and I don't want it getting in the way down the road.
Kathy O'Hara: Does this mean... you don't like sex with girls?
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: No, I love sex with girls.

Kathy O'Hara: Okay.

:D

7. Best is Ed Wood, favorite's got to be the Hands!

Such a wonderful gothic fable. I love the generic, pastel suburb they live in.

10. I love Ed Wood
and Edward Scissorhands, but Big Fish didn't move me. It seemed like an over-sentimental Gilliam rip-off.

12. Hm. I wonder how many here have seen Big Fish?
I'm surprised you didn't like it. To me, it's one of the most perfect films I've ever seen. How a film about a father dying can not be sentimental, I'm not sure. If he had downplayed the sentimentality, it would have been unbelievable, imo. I was amazed at Billy Crudup downplayed the emotions and yet still managed to be very moving.

It was also fascinating, and to my mind typical Tim Burton, how a story with such a tragic climax could be so positive in the end. Reminded me of City of Angels, in that regard.

Then again, art to me is about passion and story. I hate artists (writers, directors, painters) who worry about technique and being cool, and lose the emotion. Technique is the tool, but so many artists see it as the whole point. There's no other point to art but passion and story. Burton is a master of combining creative technique with intense passion, though, which is why he's one of my favorites.

14. I've seen it...
twice. Still nothing. Like 'City of Angels', check out 'Wings of Desire' - the original and best version.

17. I've seen it, and it does nothing for me.
I'm a huge Burton fan, and am moved at the drop of a hat, but Big Fish just did nothing for me. It's my least favorite Burton flick for reasons I can't really explain too well. It's almost as if it's trying too hard to be a Burton flick. I know that makes no sense whatsoever, but that's my sleep-deprived brain for you.

11. Where's Batman Returns?
Not only did Batman Returns trounce its predecessor in terms of quality, it will probably go down in history as the most disturbing mass-marketed summer blockbuster ever made. Some of the kids were crying in their seats!

13. Sorry.
I barely remember it. I remember being bored watching it, but liking DeVito. I should watch it again, I'm sure you're right and I was probably in the wrong mood way back then. I just didn't think about it for this list.

18. I just watched Big Fish and was disappointed.
I love his work, and thought the fantasy scenes terrific, but it seemed hollow at the core and never moved me, like it obviously wanted to do.
