Great lyrics from otherwise ignored or maligned pop artists...
I was standing in the shower the other day, and the following lyrics came into my head. The artist is someone who's often written off (if I say much more I'll give it away, and I want to see if anybody can guess):

Sapphires aren't enough to buy me happiness.
Diamonds don't demand me -- they're just for looking.

I've always thought that was a great line, and there were lots more. Sadly, that wasn't what got all the attention, and many of the good lyrics got lost in the shuffle.

So, any 'above and beyond the call of duty' lines or songs from artists who 'sold out' later, whose mode or success has earned them contempt, whose careers crashed and burned after that wonder hit?

Oh, yeah -- and by the way -- who wrote them lyrics and what song are they from?

1. Turn the Lights Down -- A-ha from Lifelines album
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 12:26 AM by Nikepallas
This parts of the song really seems to stand out for me and caught the ear of my friend who hates the band until she heard this song.

It is a Duet.

I cannot help you, you yourself must see
Decide now on what you want to be (Female voice)

Turn the lights down
The lights are too strong(Morten's voice)

When you're down and out just hold on
Realize that nothing lasts long (Morten's voice)

We must believe in things we cannot see
Everything's alright with me (female voice)

Turn the lights down

(p.s. I am tired so if I mixed up who sang what sorry. Also I can't for the life of me think of the Female's name just very tired.)

2. I think I've only heard two of a-ha's songs.
'Take On Me' and another from that era that was a ballad, but Morten sang it solo.

Interesting, though -- I didn't even know they were still recording. I always liked his voice.
