06.11.2008 — If there wasn't already enough confusion over the DTV transition, the government is adding fuel to the fire.

According to Reuters, the government is running out of money to mail the $40 coupons that cut consumers a break on converter boxes. The government has received more than 16 million requests for the coupons since late February.

More coupons may have to be mailed because many consumers didn't use them before the 90-day expiration period. According to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), only 42 percent of the 840,000 coupons that just expired were redeemed.
