NEW YORK (AP) -- Celebrity parents Jon and Kate Gosselin say they plan to divorce.

In a statement, Jon Gosselin says he and wife Kate filed for divorce Monday afternoon.

The co-stars of ''Jon & Kate Plus 8,'' who are parents of sextuplets and twins, spoke of their decision to separate during Monday's episode of the TLC reality series.

The network had promised a major on-air decision from the couple, whose increasingly troubled 10-year marriage has dominated the series in recent weeks as well as fueling a firestorm of tabloid coverage.

11. She's a woman that was able

to pop out 6 kids in one pregnancy, after having twins. That's about it. She treats her husband like a piece of shit, and he apparently cheated on her. She's gone on book/speaking engagements - he's left at home being Mr. Mom, while she takes the credit for birthing the herd. Oh - and she got caught beating one of her kids the other day.

10. I never heard of them until about two weeks ago.

First of all, the children seem like good kids. So maybe something was going right.

But I do have to say that I feel bad that any family ends up broken up by divorce. Neither of them seem like bad people, so I don't think we should judge them.

Frankly, I don't know how they stayed on the air for five years. It's really like watching boring videos of other peoples' families.

Still and all....I'm hooked on the family dynamics. Very interesting.

Yes, the kids are good. But the oldest girl has some issues. They are evident already.

Yeah, Kate bossed Jon around and wasn't always nice. But she gets a bad wrap, IMO. There's 8 kids to get dressed in the morning, meals to prepare, house to maintain, events to go to, shopping and errands to run. And Jon just stands around like one of the kids. Someone has to take charge. They have 8 kids, for gosh sakes. I mean, in the marathon of episodes I saw, I don't think I saw Jon discipline the kids once. I suspect Jon likes Kate taking charge. Life is so much easier when someone else does all the thinking and planning, and all you have to do is show up. Isn't it? He only had a problem with it when it was on TV and the male audience starting ripping him about it.
