Arrested Development Movie Nowhere Near Happening :(
http://blog.zap2it.com/korbitv/2009/08/arrested-development-movie-is-nowhere-near-happening.html

It's been over a year since buzz about an "Arrested Development" film first began circulating. And when cast members confirmed shortly thereafter that a big screen version of the FOX series was indeed in development, fan excitement was legitimized.

In January, executive producer Mitch Hurwitzeven told the press that a distribution deal with Fox Searchlight was more or less in place.

However, when I spoke with Hurwitz one-on-one that month, he also said that the "Arrested" movie was far from actually shooting, since he couldn't come up with a story until he knew exactly which cast members were on board.

Of course, at that time, the lone hold out was the series' break out star Michael Cera(George Michael), so waiting to know whether or not he'd be involved, before starting to write, made sense.

But Cera signed on to do the film in late February.

And it is now August and sources say Hurwitz has not yet begun writing.

"I don't think Mitch is gonna do it," an insider told me. "It seems like he's moving off the idea. So much time has passed."

Of course Hurwitz has been busy with pilot project upon pilot project this year, not to mention FOX's "Sit Down, Shut Up," and his work load doesn't seem to be dwindling, having just announced a new TV venture with "Arrested" alum Will Arnett earlier this week.

1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
What is Mitch's problem? That's the best thing he'll ever do.

3. Is this opposite day?!?
Ugh... This is the second bit of bad news today for my favorite TV shows of all time...

First, I read that Bryan Singer is re-making Battlestar Galactica for the big screen. This is a bad idea, because the Ron Moore re-imagined series was perfect.

Now, I read that Arrested Development is NOT likely... I was really looking forward to this.

BTW... Is that sign Photoshopped? It's awesome.

5. One of the best shows ever. But I'm very luke warm on a movie.
I don't think it works AT ALL in that form.

And I suspect when Hurwitz set out thinking about writing it he came to a similar conclusion.

7. I'd prefer they just bring the show back a'la Family Guy.
However, as referenced in the article, Michael Cera has gone on to film success so he probably would be tough to get on board for a series re-boot (I actually think his "awkward guy" routine is wearing mighty thin, we'll see how long he can keep that up.) Jason Bateman has seen a career revitalization as well, so he might prefer a feature film as well.

As long as the film doesn't sully a near-perfect series, I would welcome it.

I agree with the other poster about the possibility of Bryan Singer tackling BSG. The only good movie of his that I can think of was The Usual Suspects, please don't turn BSG into X-Men (those movies sucked!)
