Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle
For any Dorothy Parker fans, "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle" will be on IFC at 8:30 PM EST this evening.

Jennifer Jason Leigh does a creditable job of bringing Dorothy to the screen.

1. Although I loved that movie
I've often wondered if anyone who wasn't already familiar with most of the characters/situations would have the least idea of what was going on.

5. The answer to this question is "no".

No reflection on DP ( I guess), but it was a BAD movie. Jumbled, chaotic, self-indulgent, pretentious w. a capital P.

I saw it twice and still couldn't have told you what the bleep was happening in the movie.

3. My favorite Parker poem:
I'd rather flunk my Wasserman test
Than read a verse by Edgar Guest. (Wasserman test was for syph)

reincarnation of Poe, so. Yes...I saw the movie and would LOVE to own it. I hate watching the same move over, but this would be one I could watch many times!

Here is my ditty to Dot:

Thanks, Dorothy Parker

Dorothy, my dear
You’ve seen me through another year.
Your vitriolic wit
accounts for all I’ve writ.

I claimed sex's revolution.

Then set about, as losers will
turning all of them to imbecile.
Thought I had men dead to right.
But you know I’m a poison pen neophyte.

8. My favorite Parker poem
Which I always claim to have memorized, so forgive me if I get some of it wrong:

There's little in taking or giving
There's litte in water or wine
This living, this living, this living
Was never a project of mine.

Oh, hard is the climb and sparse is
The reward for the one at the top
For art is a form of catharsis
And love is a permanent flop

And work is the province of cattle
And rest's for a clam in it's shell
So I'm thinking of throwing the battle
Would you kindly direct me to hell?
