LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) -- Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper agree on half of
their picks for the best movies of 2004.
"Million Dollar Baby," the film directed and starring Clint Eastwood about a
female boxer, played by Hilary Swank, is the highest on both of their
lists -- with "The Aviator," "Hotel Rwanda," "Kill Bill: Vol. 2" and
"Sideways" also getting the thumbs-up from both critics.
The pair plan to discuss their choices on the syndicated show "Ebert and
Roeper" the first week of January.
"I hope people won't forget 'Kill Bill 2,' and I think Neve Campbell gave an
Oscar-worthy performance
," Ebert tells
Zap2it.com. "And I think Al Pacino will be forgotten, but he gave such a
great performance in 'The Merchant of Venice'; he's such a great actor."
Although Ebert says he doesn't tell the Academy what to nominate for the
Oscars, he does hope that he helps remind the voters what is out there.
"Cate Blanchett has a good chance for her role in 'The Aviator.' I thought
she had a lot of fun being Katharine Hepburn."
Ebert's best of the year, from the top, are: "Million Dollar Baby," "Kill
Bill: Vol. 2," "Vera Drake," "Spider-Man 2," "Moolade," "The Aviator,"
"Baadasssss!" "Sideways," "Hotel Rwanda" and "Undertow."
Roeper's Top 10 are: "Hotel Rwanda," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind," "The Aviator," "Sideways," "House of Flying Daggers," "Million Dollar
Baby," "The Terminal," "Kill Bill: Vol. 2," "Spanglish" and "Collateral."
So far, in 2004, Ebert's biggest dispute with Roeper has been over
"Garfield," starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
"I gave a thumbs up to 'Garfield,' which he found inexplicable and maybe
he's right, I don't know," Ebert says.
The critics' Worst of 2004 show will air in mid January.
