If I Were God, Christians and Muslims Would Make Me Sick. |
|
I gave people brains to think with and a magnificent and grand unfolding mystery. Do you think I would care what you believed if you behaved in the right way?
Do you think I would place a high value on people who believe in me because they think if they don't, they will go to hell?
Hell no.
Do you think I would place a high value on people who believe in me because they think if they do, they will go to Heaven?
Heavens no!
Do you think I would place a high value on people who believe in me because they have been indoctrinated since childhood, then closed their minds because they were afraid to "walk through the valley of the shadow of death" (i.e. read other "books" besides the bible or Koran which exposes one to other possibilities, ideas, concepts, histories, etc.)
No, no, and a thousand times no.
But wait. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate their services, and their sucking up and all...
But I wouldn't pay the slightest attention to any of them except that their meglomania threatens my creation.
The most treasured one, is the one who does not believe in me, yet chooses the right course anyway. People who use their reason to cooperate, people who "walk through the valley of the shadow of death" unafraid,...
not because they're afraid they will go to hell,...
and not because they think that if they suck up enough, they'll get into heaven,
but because they unselfishly and courageously face the great mystery that is the universe using all of the faculties I created in them.

Or at least that's the sense I get from a number of idiotic threads started here in the last few days.

2. I'm with you except for the part where |
|
the most treasured is the non-believer.
I believe that person is *as* treasured as every other person.
And there are many believers who don't operate from a punishment/reward view of faith.

4. I have always thought that |
|
the Divine Creator made us all different (race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.) via genetics and free will only to test our ability for empathy and tolerance. Wouldn't it be just grand irony if a bunch of fundies showed up at the proverbial pearly gates only to be turned away because of their bigotry and hatred toward others that didn't believe exactly like they do? I'd love to be a fly on that gate post to see that!

8. The bottom line... do justice, show mercy... |
|
Isaiah 1:11 When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?
13 Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies.
14 My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.
17 Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow. Micah: It hath been told thee, O man, what is good, and what the LORD doth require of thee: only to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.

9. Yeah, the fundies sure would make me sick... |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 09:39 PM by lvx35
In fact, here's what I would do if I was God: I would make myself really scarce, and make sure that any evidence of me that the fundies could rub in others people's faces didn't exist...I would refuse to deal with anybody who I didn't like, in fact I would be invisible to them. I would make sure the world conformed with materialist explanations just to make them wrong for presuming to speak for me. But every now and then, I would also reveal myself to certain folks, just though an odd little coincidence, just for fun. That's how I would play it! ;)

What if God is not what anyone thinks God is? Perhaps God IS the Krishnas in the airport, AND the people watching them AND the airport itself....everything and everyone, and beyond any rational explanation or description.....

21. This is so NOT my area of knowledge so forgive me... |
|
But I thought that muslims had to convert or kill the infidel? Thats why there will either come a day when muslims will have to update their religion (fyi so will xtianity*) or there'll have to be a great big fight and we'll all end up muslim or there wont be any more muslims? As I say, I dont know, but that's what I thought.
To put my knowledge in to perspective, most of what I know comes from New York taxi drivers.
Oh, and also Muslims seem rather more interested in the next life than this one, which they seem particularly dissatisfied with ( driving taxi's isn't that great I guess). But the impression is they are so inclined towards the next life they are almost edging in favour of getting there a bit early, possibly doing some good deed (see paragraph 1) to ensure they get the prettier virgin on arrival at the other end.
Let me repeat before I go, that i know less than bo diddly about Muslims. Just what taxi-drivers tell me.
TRYPHO. (* - because its obivously bollocks)

That people don't value life more.
That people have created religions that are used as an excuse to mistreat women and go to war and subdue the earth (IOW - her), and to be assholes in general.
