R.I.P. R.A.W.

Robert Anton Wilson died today. R.U. Sirius has posted a very nice, slightly irreverent, obit at http://www.10zenmonkeys.com/2007/01/11/robert-anton-wilson-1932-2007/.

I've long been a fan of RAW. When I was younger and more experimental in the use of my mind, RAW introduced me to the occult, conspiracy theory, drugs, sex magick, and Taoism. I still have a fondness for his Cosmic Trigger and Schroedinger's Cat books and who doesn't like the Illuminatus Trilogy, written with Robert Shea. My favorite book of his, though, is Prometheus Rising (oops, not Unbound, that's Shelley's), based on Timothy Leary's Eight Circuit model of the mind. Funny, illuminating, and nutty all in one.

"Reality is what you can get away with." Indeed it is Bob, indeed it is.

2. I remember the first time I fired the Cosmic Trigger...
and blew my mind...

RAW's writings led me to many long, strange trips that seemed to be unrelated, but it the end everything was indeed connected.

Cosmic Trigger: Final Secret of the Illuminati is still one of the all time best books ever.

3. Like it says in the Bible...
"...and in the End, the Love You Take is Equal to the Love You Make"

Not sure if that is in the writing of St. John or the Apostle Paul, but it's in the Bible for sure; it was written by one of those guys who was more famous than Jesus.

4. I can't say I liked the Illuminatus books
I can't remember if I actually finished the first one; I certainly didn't read any more. They just weren't very interesting, or particularly well written, it seemed to me, although I'm happy reading science fiction and fantasy, so the 'unbelievable' aspects weren't a problem to me. And I don't know if all the 'Illuminati' nonsense that floats around these days would be half as popular if they hadn't written the books.

6. The evil master computer (The Beast) is GWB
And Chaney is a principle gadfly and foe of orgasm research.

Make of that what you will...

7. Interesting guy, for sure.
A bit overrated as an original thinker, in my opinion, but interesting nonetheless.

8. I'm chuckling at this line...
"When I was younger and more experimental in the use of my mind, RAW introduced me to the occult, conspiracy theory, drugs, sex magick, and Taoism."

All the things I hoped my teenagers wouldn't get into. But did, of course.
